Not sure if I should quit due to sunk cost. Advice please

Hey all,

Context: long story short, I was in an unemployed phase following deferral of a university degree. I love the gym and fitness, so during thid time, I trialled a few product ideas. One I have now made (label, data sheets etc) and I have confirmed all of the compliance and regulations. The last investment required is insurance (approximately 1k) and a label run.

I released an initial video on a new brand page on Instagram, and it got a fair bit of organic traction despite no ads and a cold start (90k views, 3900 DM shares, 220 EOI filled out for a sign up discount code etc).

The problem is: due to my spare time, I spent time and resources on developing other product ideas, leading to about $5k total investment, $3k in this specific product. This was, in hindisght, feeling the need to "be productive" and fill my days. The RRP for this product specifically is fairly low and I feel hard stuck at a ceiling of approximately $25 USD per bottle (its a spray).

Whilst the niche market will likely appreciate the product, I'm at a loss if I want to continue with the brand. I had grand visions of releasing a product, using that revenue to release another product etc. But I feel like there is little chance of growth/potential in the business, especially when the gym and fitness space is either saturated or towered over by corporate giants.

Sorry for the ramble, just not sure what I should consider and I feel a bit terrible for not doing proper budgeting/forecasting first.

Thanks!

People who powerlift: competitive vs total

Hey everyone,

Bit of a random question thats been on my mind lately for whatever reason. I understand powerlifting has grown in the last decade. However, myself and others in the gym were debating whether there is a large group that train "as powerlifters" yet don't actually compete?

The discussion came from thinking whether the roughly 130 000 annual competitors represented the majority of the sport, or if the numbers are actually much larger when you account for those that don't compete.

Love to hear your thoughts!

Last two trades advice please!

Screenshots tell the story. Have two trades left, FB is the likely upgrade but not sure whether to go Ponga vs Teddy, and then where to upgrade with the spare cash. High cash players I don't care if I get rid of: Ronaldo, any of the front rowers and, whilst hes been good and steady, Joey Walsh. Thanks!

Wetsuit Entry Solutions?

Hey all!

I just got into swimming/triathlon training and am curious about the anti-chafe/glide product space for wetsuits.

Body Glide and Trislide are the first things that come up on the past searches, but wondering if anyone's had actual issues with them and if they are solid products? Seen knock off solutions like olive oil spray (lol). Just wondering what I should like at purchasing.

Thanks!

Sandon Smith for Grant?

Brailey hasn't been insane and Pascoe, whilst tearing it up, I just don't trust the Titans playing him large minutes the rest of the season. Can afford them all with 5 trades and no major holes anywhere else. Thoughts?

Recommendations: Trade or Hold

Turbo is the big one (Walsh or Teddy TBD), but genuinely not sure if I should stockpile trades now. Only trade I'm certain of will be bringing in Brailey at some point

Trade advice Please

Thoughts? If i use the 4 trades, will be left with 8 trades + 1 boost. Whilst Nico would be good to aim for, not as high as others for rest of season. Before trades cash: $48k

Some Perspective Please!

Hey all,

So I'll cut to the chase: mid 20s guy. Love stand up, all things in comedy in all forms since as early as I can remember. Bit the bullet and decided to give an open mic a crack ~10 months ago and fell in love with it. Since then, mics aren't as common in my area so I've only done say an hour of unique material but since starting have entered competitions, travelled to a few different cities, vets have been surprised by my (lack of) experience etc. Its been a great thing for me and I love being on stage with plenty of untested material to try out!

However, I have an opportunity to go to med school (non-US so not AS hectic as the US). This is essentially my "ideal" traditional career, so its not like I detest it, hate my current life etc. But this all or nothing thinking has me going "why commit to a long career pathway when you haven't thrown yourself all into comedy!?". It's not quite the cliche of "a job you loathe or chase your dreams". Choosing your passion vs practicality and what not.

Can someone talk some sense into me saying that its OK to pursue stand up in parallel with another professional endeavors? Or alternatively, anyone that has dealt with similar thoughts? Like yeah my ultimate dream career would be to be a successful comic, but I also understand that comedy can't really be rushed and I'm putting the cart way before the horse.

Thanks!

Courier options for small flammable cosmetics?

Hey all,

Hitting a decent hurdle before launching my gym brand start up. Two of my projected popular products are technically classified as dangerous goods (category 3) in limited quantities (150ml max). As a result, Aus Post unfortunately will not take me on until a few months of sales data.

As the products are low in price ($20-$30), the only feasible options i can find for small dangerous goods are Aramex and CouriersPlease. I have searched far and wide and have seen their horror stories, and for the sake of my customers, I really don't want to go with them.

Since margins per unit are fairly healthy, I have even resorted to 3PL's even though the packing side of things is extremely simple and I would prefer doing, just in hopes to gain access to their Aus Post, DHL, TNT etc contract perks.

Is it basically roll the dice and risk brand reputation going with Aramex/Couriers Please or are there alternatives I haven't considered?

Thanks everyone

New redesign: could this trigger IP issues?

Hey all,

For context I am not an engineer but in the process of developing a piece of gym equipment.

I am new to product development and in the process of building a gym brand. One of the products I have seeked engineering consults for is a physical piece of gym equipment.

I narrowed down my offer for CAD + prototype ready-design to two engineers: both had great input. I decided to go with engineer #1, however I stupidly sent a screenshot of the crude design concept that engineer #2 drew for me. I now worry that what I have done is both unethical and may lead to legal risk (most likely very low but still risk) later down the track if the product becomes successful.

I understand ideas themselves are not IP directly, but I feel I went a step further by sharing another engineer's creation (even if crude) to another.

Note that said design did not include specifics like material, measurements, load calculations etc. However, for a relatively simple product, I can't imagine it is going to look drastically different to the screenshot of the design I forwarded to engineer #1 and thus, may turn appear as if their IP was stolen.

Understandably, engineer #2 is dissatisfied with pursuing another engineer after collecting his input and design concept.

Am I drastically overthinking this, or do I have a reason for concern for this coming back to bite me? The last thing I want is to be wrong both ethically and legally. At what point does sharing another engineers ideas, design etc become IP breach? Not necessarily looking for legal advice, just some thoughts from those that are more experienced in the industry than I am.

Thanks!
