Starting which part of the city does Buenos Aires get dangerous and sketchy?

I am new to Buenos Aires, and I've had people tell me how dangerous even the capital is. I think it is exaggerated but I would like to ask the natives here. I heard the Belgrano, Palermo, Ricoleta are all wealthy areas. I assume these areas are safe to walk around during day time and even during night time (not too late). Starting which neighborhood does it get dangerous to walk solo as a man late in the evening?

Thank you!

Edit: Damn i thought Retiro was a nice area. That is where I am staying near Avenida Corrientes.

Thank you all. I will try to stay in the north side and avoid the Retiro Station.

Is there any Christian community among expats, digital nomads that I can look into and join?

Hi everyone. After traveling through many different countries, I am considering using Colombia (likely Medellín) as home base and staying long term. I would love to know if there is anyone here who is part of a Christian community in Medellín or elsewhere in Colombia that I can look into joining.

Thanks a lot.

Gracias hermanos.

Asking for tips to save money on groceries.

I am totally brand new to Argentina, and I am not sure if it is just Buenos Aires or throughout the country but I noticed the groceries are super expensive here. It could be due to inflation and other economic issues, I am not sure. I went to Jumbo to buy some eggs, bread and snacks and it costed me $50.

Is it just Jumbo? Where can I go to buy my groceries to reduce cost?

Edit: Thanks everyone I will keep in mind COTO and DIA and other smaller local places to shop. :)

Any Americans in BA who want to meet up to catch the world cup game on Monday night?

I am new to Argentina and would love to make friends! I am in my mid 30s, and I'm Korean American from New York. Non-americans welcome too of course! DM me if interested.

Edit: It doesn't have to be just the USA game. I am down to meet to catch other countries games too.

Do Colombians also feel like they're the nicest or is it a weird perception that foreigners have?

A lot of foreigners compliments Colombians as being super nice. I, as a foreigner, who has travels across many countries in Latin America, also find it that overall Colombians are the nicest. Others aren't mean or rude particularly but Colombians are extra nice.

Do the Colombians here also feel you guys are the nicest? or is this sample size bias?

Any career changers here going from Actuarial to something else?

I've worked in the actuarial side for 8 years and been a fellow for 3 years.

I've never really liked the day to day job. Any credentialed actuary here changed to a new career and been loving it so far? If so what is that?

I am kind of thinking about underwriting in the commercial side who deal with a few large accounts but I am not married to that idea and would like to explore even outside of insurance.

Thanks.

For those trading commodities, do you trade based on fundamentals more than pure price action.

This is for anyone trading futures, specifically commodities (e.g. oil, corn, nat gas). Anyone here who trade this, do you base your trading decisions more on reports and fundamentals than price action?

  • Also if you specialize in a specific commodity how did you come to trade that? Anything specific that attracted you to that commodity?
  • If so, could you please share (if you are willing) what your day to day work is like trading this specific commodity?

Thanks a lot for your time. I'm a newbie guy who wants to take this seriously where I dedicate the next 1-2 years learning and not trading.

Anyone does portfolio management instead?

I know a lot of noobies get drawn to fast money where daytrading (quick in and out) is what gets the fastest attention.

But anyone here does more "portfolio management" where they put modern finance portfolio theory into practice?

If so, could you share how your experience has been? Are theories good in practice (using sharpe ratios, beta, etc)?

For those trading one specific commodity, why that?

I would like to get into one specific commodity and slowly dedicate some years becoming an expertise in one specific commodity. I am curious out of all the different futures, why did you pick that one?
