Which do you prefer: auto-tracking all UPI spends, or a quick one-line reason after each payment?
Hi everyone,
I keep running into this: a few months later I open my UPI history or bank statement, see a payment to some person’s name, and I genuinely can’t remember what it was for. Category based trackers don’t help much here, because the payment to “Ramesh” could be chai, a loan to a friend, or a medical bill.
I’ve read a lot of threads here about expense trackers (Axio, Fold, Cashew, etc.), and most people seem to want either full auto-tracking or full manual entry. I’m curious about the gap in between, so I’m just researching right now. I haven’t launched anything.
A few questions:
- Do you ever forget why you paid someone? How often?
- How do you deal with it today? (notes while paying, a spreadsheet, a tracker app, bank statement, nothing?)
- If a notification popped up after a payment, letting you type or speak a one-line reason in 2 seconds, would you actually use it? Or would you ignore it after a week?
- Would you be okay with an app reading payment SMS/notifications for this, or is that a dealbreaker for you?
- Is there an app you already use that does this well?
Brutally honest answers welcome, including “I wouldn’t use this.” It helps me more than polite ones.
Thanks!
