Some thoughts on Rainbow Quartz

So I was thinking of why Pearl and Rose would "fuse... a lot" and there is the obvious answer that Gems who love one another just like to fuse and be close (duh). That is a given.

But I also think it was special for Pearl and Rose because of what it allowed them to feel.

We know Rose did not like herself. As PInk she saw herself as not mattering to the Diamonds while also being too high up to connect with anyone Else. She was told hundreds of times that she messed things up and made things worse and she internalized It.

We also know Pearl saw herself as pretty worthless on her own. That her only value could come from what she could provide to someone more important than herself.

We also know they could not get the other one to fully abandon that view of themselves. That Pearl and Rose argued about this during the war.

But as Rainbow Quartz, I think they could get the other to see/feel themselves the way they saw them.

Rose saw Pearl as brilliant and full of potential to do anything she set her mind to. Pearl saw Rose as this incredible kind and caring person that brought out the best in herself and others. As as Rainbow they could feel that way about themselves

If you had asked Rose or Pearl alone they probably would have given the other full credit for how far the rebellion got and none to themselves. But as Rainbow they could acknowledge they worked together.

A big point the show makes is that a relationship cannot fix you and nobody's love can force you to love yourself. But someone respecting and loving you obviously helps, and I think Rainbow allowed them to feel respected and loved in a way they never had before her.

Plus, she is a giant hot dancer. Who does not want to be a giant hot dancer?

People often say that Pearl's default appearance is just like any other Pearls. But that never made sense to me. Just because she was not costumized does not mean every other Pearl starts looking like her.

We know Pearl was custom made by the Diamonds to be a more sensible assistant to Pink than Volley was and keep her in line.

That is probably why she has the colours of all Diamonds and why Peridot could tell she was fancy

She could have been costumized further later on, but I doubt all Pearls look the same initially. They would not be custom made if so.

When you think about it it is super wholesome and cute that Rose wanted to sneak out just to say Hi to the newly emerged Amethysts and welcome them to the world

I like how in this shot from Independent Together, Pearl is defending Rose but not from armies - from the Diamonds themselves. As if even more than protecting her in battle she protected her by getting her away from her abusive family.

I love that when Pearl is not focused on her homeworld trauma and being a martyr, she and Rose just mow down everyone like a well oiled machine

Homeworld Gems underestimate her and she just...kills people. It is so fun.

Is them not being called Smokey Quartz 2.O an out of universe thing because unlike Rainbow Quartz we never saw a Rose version, or meant to imply Rose and Amethyst never fused?

People were talking about how cool Garnet is in this episode, but am I the only one who could never see that ending as a cool one?

I sincerelly dont understand how people can feel what Garnet did here was super cool. She saw that her best friend was jealous of Greg and they were bickering, and rather than encourage something that could help the issue (like encouraging Rose to talk to both of them) she just gave Greg advice on how to woo Rose, making the jealousy issues several times worse.

Even If she wanted to meddle in Roses love life, and even If she thought Greg and Rose were cute together why on Earth would she go about It in the most reckless way possible? The ultimate result was that none of the bickering was adressed, Rose died not even knowing she hurt people she loved, Pearl and Greg both got their hearts broken and could not even speak to one another properly until 14 years later which Steven had to push because *Garnet seemingly never cared that Pearl had feelings about any of it at all*

Garnet is supposed to be good at relationships but she did so by encouraging this? I get that Garnet gets wrapped up in love sometimes and gives bad advice, but the show never acknowledges that as musguided on her part. Are we supposed to think Garnet ignoring Pearl's feelings is okay because she likes Greg better? Because the episode seems to imply that.

And what makes it worse is clearly Pearl admires Garnet and her relationship a lot. I can't imagine being in Pearl's place and learning that the person who was supposed to be my best friend, who probably met Rainbow Quartz before anyone, and whose relationship I admire so much for so long could disregard my own feelings and relationship like that.

Genuinelly the only logic I can find here is that this is a story biased by Greg's POV, so kinda frames him as the hero and Pearl as the villain, and Garnet didn't treat Pearl like like this. Because if she did I genuinelly think she was a super callous friend to Pearl for no apparent reason. It is kinda weird

I thought It would be interesting if Connie and Pearl talked after Steven proposing in Future (storyboard)

Since Steven already talked to Garnet, and since Pearl trains Stevonnie, I thought It would be cool for Connie to talk to her

Steven signs this gem document in English. Do you think he can write in gem? He asked Pearl to teach him.

My headcanon is she did but his Gem handwriting was very hard to read like the gem version of a doctor

Plot twist: Rose's gem handwriting kinda sucked too and Pearl wrote most of the rebellion stuff.

I find it interesting that both versions of Rainbow have two sets of eyes but no extra limbs.

I think that it may relate to seeing the world differently but working together.

Steven/Rose have a more wonder-eyed vision of things while Pearl is more practical and usually more cautious. But they usually have the same goal and ease to work together hence no extra limbs.

Just a thought.

Do ALL Gems have the potential to form a weapon?

I ask because if Pearl can, any gem should be able to

But Sapphire seems to have none and neither does Bismuth

People ask how Rose would be as a mom but Amethyst is the best glimpse we get at how Rose would raise someone

Amethyst was never told she was not the size she was 'supposed' to be by Rose Garnet and Pearl so that she never had to feel like she was less. So she never had to feel how they did in Homeworld.

Rose, even assuming she was not off color as Pink, knew what being smaller than the other Diamonds was like. And never wanted Ame to feel small and helpless and unimportant.

We also see when Amethyst is lashing out in Maximum Capacity she even says that she had someone who was always there for her. And she tells Jasper Rose always told her she was perfect the way she was. That says a lot. Amethyst isn't super vulnerable but this lets us know how Rose interacted and that she was both a supportive and present figure for young Amethyst

I wish we had more scenes about it but what we got makes me think Rose was a pretty decent mother figure for her. Sure, meeting the other Amethysts was helpful for Amethyst in the long run but I think Rose did pretty good building her self esteem and teaching her she was not wrong and not meant to be anything else than who she was

Rose tried to be for Ame everything the Diamonds were not for her.

Pink Diamond Tower headcanon

So I noticed there are these "windows" in the Tower they used to lock Pink Diamond in. They are as high as Blue Diamond and pretty wide.

So I thought.....why did Pink not try to escape through them? She can float...

But then I realized floating requires her to think happy thoughts. When they locked her there she was probably too emotionally beaten down to float that high

Headcanon that when Pearl found out butterfly botanical gardens exist she took Rose to one and she got the zoomies
