HSI to ERO

Looking for anybody that has made the jump from HSI to ERO in order to get closer to home.

I’m a GS11 with HSI, been with the agency for just over two years. Recently an immediate family member was diagnosed with a terminal, life limiting illness that requires an extensive amount of in home care.

My sister is currently this family member’s primary caregiver but she is unable to provide the proper level of care because she works 50+ hours a week, an hour+ away from the family member.

The family member lives in the same city as a large SAC office, and if I were able to get home, my sister and I could split the caregiving duties much more effectively.

Unfortunately, since this family member is not financially dependent on me, I’m not eligible for a medical hardship request. I’m still going to request a non-medical hardship, but I’ve been told not to get my hopes up.

If anyone has made the jump from HSI to ERO to get back home, how was that process, and do you regret your decision? For me, it’ll probably be ERO or state/local.
