Inflated New Housing Prices?

Hello Visalia,

Above is the prices for the new houses for the Carleton Acres subdivision being built just north of the New Costco.

High $400k’s for a 1600 - 1700 sq. ft, house are you effing kidding me! Since when has a house of “standard” square footage been this expensive? These prices are Clovis, CA prices without any of the amenities

Someone please educate me, because these homes seem hyper inflated to me, because the idea of being next to the new high school and new Costco do not justify such inflated prices

Economic Development Analyst - Potential Interview Questions

Hello fellow Gov. workers! I recently landed an interview for an Economic Development Analyst role with a county government. The interview consists of two parts. The first one involves an hour-long exam, while the second portion involves a 45-minute panel interview.

I would like to ask fellow Gov. employees that work in the Economic Development sector what kind of questions and/or case study the county would make me do for an analyst role? Additionally, what kind of panel questions are typically asked in a 45-minute interview?

I already completed a 15-minute screening interview with questions such as:

  • What is Economic Development?
  • What is your experience with Project Management?
  • What is your experience with policy and grant drafting?
  • Etc...

I'm looking to find out what additional questions may be asked outside of a standard 15-minute screening interview?

Thank you!

What industry could truly transform Visalia’s future?

Visalia has been growing rapidly over the last several years. New housing developments are popping up, warehouses continue to be built, and the city is expanding in ways that would have seemed surprising a decade ago.

While warehouse and logistics jobs certainly have value, I can’t help but wonder if Visalia is aiming too low. What industry could be attracted here that would genuinely transform the city’s economy and create more high-paying careers?

Aerospace comes to mind. Others might suggest advanced manufacturing, agricultural technology, renewable energy, engineering firms, or even a university expansion focused on STEM fields.

Visalia sits in a strategic location, has room to grow, and is surrounded by one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world. It seems like there is potential for something bigger than becoming another warehouse hub.

If you could bring one industry to Visalia that would have a major long-term impact on jobs, wages, and economic growth, what would it be and why?

I’m curious to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Siraj Coffee

Is this place any good? Is it more or less than component coffee lab? Are the vibes here cool?
