I somehow ended up building an app before building the house 😅

For a long time I’ve wanted to build our own home. Since I come from an IT background, I did what any nerd would do... went deep on the internet looking for ideas.

There’s just way too much stuff out there.

Instagram reels, TikToks, Pinterest, random websites, screenshots, photos you take when you see something nice somewhere... it just keeps piling up.

Then there’s the fun part — I like one thing, wifey likes another.

Before we knew it, we had saved way too many posts and our gallery was full of screenshots and random house photos.

Then the real headache started.

How do you sort all this?
What actually works together?
What can realistically be built?
What needs tweaking?
What’s probably way too expensive?

Honestly, my mind was blown.

I tried using Excel... that went nowhere. My wife wanted no part of that.
We tried boards too, but it all started looking messy pretty quickly.

So I started looking for some kind of app or tool for people planning a future home — not floor plans, not builder software, just something to save ideas, organise them, and help make actual decisions.

Couldn’t really find anything that felt right.

So being the nerd I am, I ended up building one.

It’s called Dwellu. We’ve actually been using it ourselves and it’s helped us a lot in getting our ideas out of chaos and into something a bit more clear.

I figured there are probably plenty of people here in the same boat, so sharing it here.

If you’re planning a build or renovation and want to try it, it’s on iOS and Android:
