Remodeling MCM home

We bought this home a few months ago. We really love it but the kitchen/powder room/primary is a bit small with the laundry being quite loud. How would you all redraw it during a remodel?

Loft conversion bedroom

Hello guys I’m looking to turn this awkward loft space into a comfortable and stylish bedroom.

Any ideas where best to put a bed with a tall headboard, wardrobes, tall bedside drawers, a tv, and a vanity?

I’d like to add some sort of seperation to the room without adding a wall

All ideas welcome!

Floor Plan

Has anyone built something similar to this? Love the bones of this floorplan but tryin to figure out how to incorporate basement stairs, a half bath, and a mudroom area.

Title: Need honest architect feedback on my 30×55 ft first-floor 2BHK plan before construction.

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to start construction soon and would really appreciate professional feedback before finalizing my floor plan.

Details:

• Plot size: 30 ft × 55 ft

• Floor: First Floor

• Purpose: Self + Rental

• Layout: 2 Bedrooms, Drawing Room, Dining, Kitchen, 2 Bathrooms, Pooja Room, Utility/Wash Area, Balconies

. I have designed the format of the house in 2 portions and the left portion is for self use and the right portion is for rent.

I have attached two versions (Plan 1 and Plan 2).

I'd really appreciate your honest feedback on the following:

  1. Which plan is better overall and why?

  2. Is the drawing room size practical for a 30'×'55" plot?

  3. Are the bedroom sizes adequate or do they feel too small?

  4. Is the kitchen size sufficient for a family of 4–5?

  5. Is there any wasted or dead space in either plan?

  6. Can the layout be optimized further without increasing the built-up area?

  7. Which plan would you choose if this were your own home?

  8. What changes would you suggest before construction begins?

Please be completely honest, even if you think something should be redesigned. I want to finalize the best possible layout before construction starts.

Thank you very much for your time and suggestions.

Help, Is Victorian Ornamental possible for this home?

I’m getting this exact house in first image without the fireplace and garage (but added room on the side where garage is/near back) and I’m struggling.

I want to ask you kind people please help me; does this ornate design similar in images 2 & 3 a possible good look on this house? I’m considering a mix of fish scale and wood work with sliding. Wondering if I’m delusional as I’m getting ready to overhaul it and open to criticism.

Roast my tiny cabin plan — no formal architect here, just a DIYer trying to make it make sense 🇿🇦

Hey everyone,
I’m not an architect (please don’t call the council 😅), but I was commissioned by a friend here in South Africa to design and build this small off-grid cabin. It’s meant for a site with a sloped terrain and a killer view of river mouth.
The specs:
1 bedroom (no loft)
Scandinavian-inspired style
Nutec building plank cladding (South African fiber cement siding)
Roof pitch: about 35°, with exposed rafters
Raised deck facing the view
Off-grid: no water supply, solar-powered
Simple timber structure, 16" OC stud spacing
My main goals: keep it lightweight, low-maintenance, and feasible for me to assemble on-site.
But… since I’ve gone full weekend-warrior-designer on this, I’d love for the pros and enthusiasts here to roast it. Tear into the layout, structure, roof lines, whatever jumps out. What would you change or improve if this were your cabin?

Need ideas to expand my farmhouse in Rajasthan – What should I build next?

Hi everyone,

I live in Rajasthan, India, and this house is built on my family's farmland. Some parts of the house were built years ago, and now I'm planning to expand it.

I'm not sure what should be built next, so I wanted to ask people with experience in home design and construction.

Here are my questions:

If this were your house, what would you build next?

Should I add more bedrooms, a bigger living area, a verandah, a sit-out, or something else?

How can I improve the front elevation so the house looks more modern?

Is there any way to make the exterior more attractive without spending a huge amount?

Are there any mistakes or missed opportunities you notice from these photos?

Since it's on farmland, what features would make the house more practical?

I'm open to both small improvements and major renovation ideas.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Would this house plan work if I were to build?

Not an architect, just an enthusiast.

My vision:

- symmetric front of house

- big porch

- separate common areas and private areas

- powder room close to common area

- full laundry room

- outdoor storage room

- large driveway and carport double as outdoor entertainment spaces

- each bedroom has its own bathroom

- indoor storage room

- large primary bedroom, bathroom, and walk in closet

Thoughts? Thank you in advance!

Detached or attached garage

I'm building a spec home and am curious what would be more desirable. A one car attached garage or a two car detached garage. Both on a 40 foot lot

PART 2: General Feedback on Final Draft of Custom Home

I submitted a draft of our plans about 5 weeks ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/houseplans/comments/1tijjhs/general_feedback_on_final_draft_of_custom_home/) and received some fantastic feedback. We have since made a lot of changes and were able to incorporate some, but not all, of that feedback.

I wanted to submit our most recent draft that feels pretty well finalized at this point. If there is any feedback (positive or negative) before we have our builder put this out for bids, I would greatly appreciate it!

First photo is current main level, then previous main level for comparison, then current lower level/basement

Open bath off primary bedroom

Many modern floor plans include an open bath attached to the primary bedroom. No door separates the bedroom from the bathroom. This make NO sense to me. This would imply that my partner and I go to bed at the same time every night, or one of us is brushing teeth, etc. in another bathroom. Otherwise, the late person would disturb the early-to-bed person. How does this design make sense? Am I in the minority? Does almost everyone his the sack at the same time as their partner?

What was the biggest thing you missed when buying your apartment?

Hi everyone,

We're working on a tool that helps people understand apartment floor plans before buying a property.

While talking to buyers, we noticed that many people discover problems only after moving in like: the living room is smaller than it looked, there's not enough storage space, furniture doesn't fit comfortably,...

We're curious: what was the biggest thing you didn't notice on the floor plan before buying/renting your apartment?

Was there anything that looked fine on paper but turned out to be frustrating in real life?

We're collecting real examples to better understand what people actually struggle with when evaluating floor plans.

Thanks!

Plant ID: What is this?

I got this plant as a freebie in an order. It was a small cutting and has since grown into this over about two years.

As pictures show, it seems to grow stiffly up before falling. Leaves are rubbery/succulent-like in texture.

Thanks in advance everyone!
