How to turn down a potential hire-on-the-spot job offer at Mpire Promotions in Garden City?
On Monday I applied for Mpire Promotions in Garden City, NY for the job of “Entry Level Customer Service Sales Representative.” Yesterday, I received a text asking if I could do an interview on Zoom for today and I responded that I could. Today the interview seemed to go well, but I was caught a little off guard because it was actually a group interview with the “founder” and 3 other people, which I wasn’t informed of. At the end of the interview, the “founder” said that they would call us later in the day to let us know if we qualify for a 2nd round group interview that could happen “as early as tomorrow.” And sure enough, a few hours later I got a call back saying that I was selected for the 2nd interview in the office.
At first I was excited because this seemed like a great first full-time job for me. But after looking up reviews for Mpire, I realize that my situation is nothing new. I’m seeing too many people say the same thing about how this company and others like it entice people into these jobs by requiring no experience and hiring them within days of applying only for the job to be nothing like the description, as well as only receiving commission pay and no set salary. I originally didn’t see this as a permanent job and just something to help me get some professional experience, but now I want to avoid this all together before I find myself roped into something I’ll really regret.
I’m mentally preparing myself for tomorrow to reject them if they want to hire me on the spot. Does anyone have any advice on how I could go about this? I’m asking this because I already told the hirer the date that I could potentially start working, as well as said “yes” when asked if this job was something I could myself doing.
Edit: I called the number and told them that I will not be attending the interview and that I’m no longer interested in their company.
