Faced racist comments on Discord does this happen to other too? and my friend says its normal and started trash talking me instead of that racist
I’m from India, and recently my friend added me to a Discord server with people from different countries. At first everything seemed normal, but after chatting there for a while I noticed people casually using the N-word like it was completely normal in that server.
Later, one guy added me and we talked for a few days. Once he found out I was from India, he started making stereotypical comments like saying we scam people and other stuff he probably picked up from the internet. I ignored it at first because he’s 17 and I thought he was just immature.
I talked to my friend about it, but he said they were “just joking” and that this kind of behaviour is normal online, so I tried to let it go.
Today I left their group chat, and after that the same guy started insulting me in DMs, making comments about my skin colour and saying other racist things.
What bothered me more was my friend’s reaction. Instead of understanding why it upset me, he kept saying things like “this is common,” “people online are always like this,” and “older people would say even worse things.” He also keeps saying that “all foreigners are racist,” which I personally don’t believe.
I just don’t understand why I’m expected to tolerate racist insults when I didn’t do anything wrong in the first place.
