Should I upgrade my Pacifica 012 or get another guitar for Drop D rhythm stuff?
Hey guys. I currently own an Ibanez RG550 Genesis and I love it, especially for solos, thrash and lead playing, but lately I’ve been thinking about getting another guitar mainly for rhythm playing in Drop D.
I play:
thrash/metal
some Avenged Sevenfold
heavier rhythm-focused stuff
tighter riffing more than solos lately
The RG550 is incredible, but since it has a Floyd/Edge bridge, changing tunings all the time is kind of annoying. Also, I sometimes want a guitar I can take places without worrying as much as I do with the Ibanez.
Right now I already own a Yamaha Pacifica 012, and I was thinking about putting a really good bridge pickup in it and using it mainly for Drop D rhythm playing.
So I’m wondering:
Is upgrading the Pacifica 012 worth it?
Or would it make more sense to move to a better Pacifica / another fixed bridge guitar?
Or should I just keep the 012 as a simpler “take anywhere” guitar while the RG550 stays my main lead guitar?
My main focus would be rhythm playing, good tuning stability in Drop D, and something comfortable for riffs.
i dont got so much money so keeping the 012 would be better
