Landlord won’t return my ₱10k security deposit — what can I do?
Hi! I rented an apartment in Davao City for around 3 months. I paid ₱10k advance and ₱10k security deposit. I have proof of both payments.
On July 6, our water and electricity were disconnected because the landlord apparently had several months of unpaid arrears to the actual owner of the building.
We later learned he wasn’t the direct owner. He eventually gave up the rental at the property, and we arranged to pay the actual owner directly so we could stay.
The problem is my ₱10k security deposit remained with the original landlord. I’ve repeatedly messaged him since July, but he no longer responds about the deposit.
What’s the best way to legally recover the ₱10k or report this? Has anyone experienced something similar in Davao?
