vanity sizing in work clothes…
at my job, we’re required to wear a company provided uniform. rather than owning my own clothing items, i simply show up to work and pick out the clothes in my size each day, and then leave them to be washed on the premises at the end of the day. we are strictly forbidden from altering or taking anything home.
the smallest size pants are alright, they have elastic at the waistband so they stay up just fine even though they’re a bit baggy. i have to fold up the legs a bit but i guess that’s to be expected when i’m well below average height in my country.
the shirts however… the smallest size is an xs, but my location only stocks 2 of them and they were so old and worn that i think management just threw them out because i haven’t seen them around recently. so now i have to opt for size s, which is a literal tent on me. it’s supposed to be short sleeved like a t-shirt, but the sleeves go almost past my elbows. do i need to say more…
anyway, recently we received a batch of new clothes since many items were getting worn out. to my dismay, we received ZERO xs shirts, only sizes s and up which i’m forced to wear every day now since the older ones are just gone. not only that, but i swear the same sizes have gotten bigger. i have to fold the pant cuffs three times now instead of two and they look baggier overall. and i look absolutely ridiculous in the new size s shirts. to be fair i haven’t brought a measuring tape and actually measured the old vs new clothes, but i can just tell they’ve gotten bigger.
this is a service job so i’m constantly in front of customers looking like a child who got into their parents’ wardrobe. i honestly don’t care that much (well, enough to complain about it on here i guess), it’s such a trivial problem in the grand scheme of things but it just points to a way bigger, very infuriating issue. thought i’d share it here with people who actually understand my frustration :’)
