shade tree- willamette valley

Looking for a shade tree ideas for my very exposed west facing front yard! i aim to only plant things that provide food or that are native (im sure like most of you here). I was thinking a desert king fig and a honey locust or potentially a big leaf maple (native in my area) but would also love to hear your thoughts and inputs!

leaving a laptop at a hotel?

I am hiking the O circuit in Patagonia, Chile in November. I believe we have 8 days of hiking planned. This once in a life time chance came at a sort of inopportune time as i am a full time university student. I will be flying from Oregon, USA so my travel time is long (~27 hours both ways). I was wondering if i brought my laptop to get schoolwork done on travel days if a hotel would hold onto my laptop while i hiked. I would, of course, be staying with them and be willing to pay extra for them to hang onto it. But are the people of patagonia hospitible and likely willing to do this? Has anyone ever tried something like this?

Odd thing with my plum

So something weird is going on with my Stanley plum where the branches and leave at the top are not growing or producing but the base is. This is the trees second spring in the ground. I bought it as a bare root tree and planted it last March. Its done well since then and I've fertilized with worming castings this spring. I pruned it last August/september along with my cherries. Does anyone know why this is happening? Is the top dying?

edit: I live in the Willamette valley Oregon

my front tire is constantly loosing air. im not kidding when i say ive done everything but get a new wheel. i started with tubeless and it was loosing air too often and when it got to the point where i was pumping it up each day, i went back to tubed. got a shwalbe marathon on there and good tube, still loosing air maybe just a little slower. changed my tube because it couldve been a faulty tube. nope....still loosing air. what the heck is going on!? do i need a new wheel?
