WEEKEND CHAOS:(

Am I the only one who's completely fed up with Pondicherry on weekends?

Every Friday evening until Sunday night, the city becomes almost impossible to live in. Roads are jammed, parking disappears, people drive recklessly, and even a 10-minute trip turns into 30–40 minutes. It honestly feels like the city comes to a standstill.

What genuinely confuses me is why so many people keep coming back every single weekend. I understand visiting Pondicherry once or twice, but after you've seen the beaches, White Town, cafés, Auroville, and a few photo spots, what keeps bringing people back so often? I'm genuinely curious because, compared to many other tourist destinations, Pondicherry has a fairly limited number of attractions, yet the crowds just keep growing every weekend.

I'm not against tourism—it supports many local businesses. But at some point, the government has to prioritize the people who actually live here. Residents shouldn't have to plan their entire weekends around traffic, struggle to find parking near their own neighborhoods, or spend hours on roads because the city is overwhelmed with visitors. Tourism is important, but so is the quality of life for the people who call Pondicherry home.

Are other Pondy residents feeling the same way, or am I overreacting? I'd like to hear both locals' and regular visitors' perspectives.

Two wheeler commute:(

Title: Is it just me or has riding a two-wheeler in Pondicherry become extremely unsafe?

I've been driving in Pondicherry for years, but over the last couple of years it genuinely feels like the roads have become much more dangerous.

The biggest issue isn't even the roads—it's the lack of civic sense. People suddenly cut across lanes without indicators, ride on the wrong side, stop in the middle of the road without warning, overtake from both sides, and many don't seem to follow basic traffic rules. As a rider, you constantly have to assume someone else is about to make a mistake.

I've had several close calls where I avoided an accident only because I was riding defensively. It's mentally exhausting to stay on high alert for the entire ride.

At this point, if someone has the option, I'd honestly recommend using a car for daily commuting or taking public transport whenever possible. A car at least gives you some protection from other people's mistakes. Two-wheelers leave you completely exposed.

I know traffic exists everywhere, but it feels like civic sense on Pondicherry roads has noticeably declined. Has anyone else experienced the same, or is it just me?
