Looking for budget-friendly MMA/Fight clubs or gym options near Pondicherry University

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for gym or clubs near Pondicherry University area (Kalapet) have two specific questions:

Combat Sports / MMA: Are there any affordable MMA, boxing, or kickboxing clubs in Pondi? (Please don't mention illegal street fight clubs, looking for a proper place to train and spar safely on a budget).

Gyms near PU: What are some budget-friendly, decent gyms around Kalapet / PU area? clean, functional machines, good weights, and affordable monthly packages.

Would appreciate it if you could drop the approximate monthly fees along with your recommendations. Thanks!

WEEKEND CHAOS:(

Am I the only one who's completely fed up with Pondicherry on weekends?

Every Friday evening until Sunday night, the city becomes almost impossible to live in. Roads are jammed, parking disappears, people drive recklessly, and even a 10-minute trip turns into 30–40 minutes. It honestly feels like the city comes to a standstill.

What genuinely confuses me is why so many people keep coming back every single weekend. I understand visiting Pondicherry once or twice, but after you've seen the beaches, White Town, cafés, Auroville, and a few photo spots, what keeps bringing people back so often? I'm genuinely curious because, compared to many other tourist destinations, Pondicherry has a fairly limited number of attractions, yet the crowds just keep growing every weekend.

I'm not against tourism—it supports many local businesses. But at some point, the government has to prioritize the people who actually live here. Residents shouldn't have to plan their entire weekends around traffic, struggle to find parking near their own neighborhoods, or spend hours on roads because the city is overwhelmed with visitors. Tourism is important, but so is the quality of life for the people who call Pondicherry home.

Are other Pondy residents feeling the same way, or am I overreacting? I'd like to hear both locals' and regular visitors' perspectives.

Airport shuttle

Just saw this is at the airport. The authorities have launched a convenient bus shuttle service that goes through white town and is timed as per the flights landing. I think this is a great move.

Lost my Pixel 8 Pro on paradise beach

It slipped from my hand after a big wave hit me. The phone was carried away by the waves. It also got switched off so I cant use find my device. I know finding it again will be nearly impossible, but still the odds are never 0. I just wanna leave this post on internet forever with a hope that when someone finds it years later, they will know how it ended up wherever they found it.

I know that I am stupid. I should've never carried my phone near the shore, but whats done is done. I already moved on with it.

What are our Traffic Cops doing. Do most riders/drivers leave their brain at home when they touch their vehicles.

Do our cops exist anymore? They are never found where they need to be. Do we leave out common sense at home when we go out...

Today, soo many traffic blocks. Any road leading to and from the city area were sooo congested this evening. The only place I saw Cops standing was at Bussy street and old law college intersection. The funniest part is that most these jams can/could have been avoided if we had some common sense. I really feel sad for people who have medical emergencies.

Best part was that the city was empty in the evening. I guess all were busy in the traffic jam.

Mudaliarpet - Upalam complete block - cause some temporary structure that has popped up near the cemetery.

Vanrapet to railway station had a traffic dreadlock. RPF had to come and shout sense into people near the railway crossing. Basically traffic was backed up from there till past amalorpavam school. Reason being both sides traffic facing each other.

Nellithope signal to IG square. Thankfully I knew some internal roads at nellithope. Cement road till past the railway crossing and AFT road traffic.

I don't understand if people realise that if traffic is not moving in one direction there must be a block and by using the opposite lane it's gonna cause a bigger block and delay even more....

Even now it's f&_£&-+# red in those areas on Google maps....

End of Rant... Good Night..

spent a weekend in pondicherry - here's how much it cost and what i explored

so, i just completed my 3 day trip to pondicherry last week. i reached there on thursday night and returned back on sunday night. it was a fun trip! thankfully, the heat wasn't as bad as i expected, and the rain didn't spoil a single day.

cost breakdown:

- ₹5,000 – stay

- ₹2,000 – scooty rental and petrol

- ₹6,000 – food

- ₹2,000 – beer and drinks (bought from local shops and enjoyed them in my room)

- ₹1,000 – miscellaneous (matrimandir parking, svaram sound garden ticket, and a few fridge magnets)

places i visited:

- white town

- french colony

- aurobindo ashram

- rock beach

- serenity beach

- eden beach

- matrimandir view point

- svaram sound garden

i also did quite a bit of café hopping:

- coromandel café - 8.5/10

- mother's café

- le petit four - almond croissant 7.5/10, cold chocolate 4/10 (way too sweet, tasted like sugar syrup)

- bread & chocolate - 7.5/10

- tanto pizzeria - 8/10

- marc's café - 8.5/10

- surguru - 8/10

- kailash parbat - 8.5/10

- A2B - 8/10

overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable trip. pondicherry has a laid back vibe that's perfect for a short weekend getaway.

Best places in Pondicherry to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday? (Budget: ₹2,500)

I'm planning to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday in Pondicherry and have a budget of around ₹2,500.

I'm looking for recommendations for places that would make the day feel special, such as:

Beachside spots

Rooftop cafés

Places that offer simple birthday decorations or a surprise setup

Any unique experiences within this budget

I found a VR gaming hall for that budget for 1 hour @ 2.5k.

Is there anything else?

The main thing is I have secretly invited her friends from long distance to be in the cake cutting so i need a good surprise place for her to see her friends.

how do you actually experience auroville beyond the usual tourist spots?

i visited pondicherry last week and dedicated one full day to auroville. i went to the matrimandir view point, visited the svaram sound garden, and tried several cafes like tanto's, coffee ideas, and B&C.

apart from that, i wasn't sure what else there was to do. it felt like i was missing a big part of what auroville actually is.

i have a few questions about life inside auroville. are most of the activities and experiences limited to people staying in auroville guest houses or volunteering there? i came across places like the india pavilion, french pavilion, and several guest houses. i also noticed a huge number of bikes parked in front of unity hall. are those mostly owned by residents, or do visitors also take part in events there? i wasn't sure whether visitors could participate in anything happening inside.

how does auroville work for someone who's visiting for a day or two or even staying for a few days? are there workshops, community events, volunteering opportunities, or cultural activities that visitors can join? if so, where can you find information about them, and how do you sign up?

i'd love to plan my next visit better because i feel like i only experienced the tourist side of auroville. any tips, recommendations, or insights would be greatly appreciated!
