Heading to Tahoe this Friday — help us fine-tune our 2.5-day itinerary?
First-time Tahoe visitors coming from Ohio this Friday (8/21)! It’s my sister’s bachelorette trip, but just the bride (29), me (35), and our mom (65), so we’re going for scenic/outdoorsy/great food rather than partying.
We’re staying at a hotel in Incline Village and land at RNO around mid-day Friday.
My sister and I are fit; she has some hiking experience and I don’t. Mom isn’t especially fit or a hiker, but she travels in Europe and handles full days of walking without problems.
Current rough plan:
Friday: Arrive → Hotel beach/pool → dinner around Incline Village.
Saturday: South Shore/Emerald Bay day. Considering the 11 AM Emerald Bay cruise since I’ve read Tahoe can get windier/choppier after ~2 PM, then horseback riding afterward.
Sunday: Scenic but manageable hike → Hotel/beach time → thrift/vintage shopping around Tahoe City/Truckee → Christy Hill tasting menu at 7:30 PM.
Would love help with a few things:
- Does this schedule make sense geographically, or would you rearrange it?
- Best scenic hike for our group, especially with Mom + coming straight from Ohio altitude?
- Best horseback ride: Camp Richardson, Zephyr Cove, Piping Rock, or somewhere else?
- Do we definitely need a rental car, or are Tahoe shuttles/Uber/TART realistic?
- Food! What are your actual local favorites — breakfast, lunch, casual dinner, cocktails, coffee, bakeries, anything. Christy Hill is our only reservation so far.
- Bonus: best thrift/vintage/consignment shopping around the lake?
We only have 2 full days + Friday afternoon, so I’m very open to hearing what’s overrated, what we should skip, and what first-timers absolutely shouldn’t miss.
Thank you!! Trip is coming up FAST and I’d really appreciate any advice.
