Question For Those With Service Animals At Big Events

Hi everyone,

I’m an armed security guard at a company that often has events (concerts and corporate events) with up to 1100 attendees. To be clear, we aren’t contract guards, we work solely for this company, at this site, and we are far more respectful and kind than your average rent-a-cop.

It’s fairly rare we get guests with service animals, but due to previous work I am well acquainted with my two questions I can legally ask. That being “Is your animal a service animal required due to a disability?” and “What task is your service animal trained to perform?”

I’m curious how you guys would feel, as someone bringing a service animal into an event about the following question.

“To be clear, you are in NO WAY obligated to answer this and I am not asking that you divulge any of your personal medical history. I only ask in case you want us to keep an eye out for you. Are there any specific alerts from your service animal that you would like us to be aware of? In the event one of my team sees that alert, would you like us to come offer assistance?”

My goal is to be extremely clear that the person is not required to answer that question and we do not want them to divulge personal medical information to random strangers. I want to give the option to have extra help immediately available in the event they are unable to ask for it themselves. We watch the crowd closely, so my team would could likely spot an alert.

My main concern is for people with conditions with a higher risk of injury such as epilepsy. For example, if your service animal begins alerting and you begin to prepare for an oncoming seizure, we want to be able to assist with medical aid if you desire it (we have a licensed paramedic on staff), and extricate you from the crowd if you desire. Obviously we are not going to provide any aid or assistance without clear consent unless there is implied consent (which is really only if you’re unconscious).

As someone with a service dog, would that question make you uncomfortable? Would you have issue with someone asking that, or would you appreciate the offer of extra assistance? Do you think the odds of us seeing an alert are low enough that it’s simply not worth asking? Would it better to simply inform the person where our static guard posts are so they know where best to seek help if they need it?

I want to be able to provide any necessary assistance to ensure someone can enjoy our events as safely and comfortably as possible without compromising their personal privacy.

Thank you for any insight, advice, or recommendations you may have!

Picky Eater

Hi gents,

I duty carry my P365 Fuse as an armed guard / executive protection.

(I marked the flair XMacro since there isn’t a Fuse one and the Fuse is just a long barrel XMacro.)

I purchased my Fuse mid-February this year and have about 3k rounds through it. I love it, my Glock-loving team mates reluctantly love it, it shoots fantastic, and it works great for open or concealed carry on duty.

My only trouble is mine has been a very picky eater. I’ve had issues with these brands of ammo so far:

Sellier & Bellot
Magtech (steel case only, brass is fine)
Federal SynTech
And occasionally Blazer Bronze

The worst of them was Federal SynTech, and the next worse was the S&B. They each failed to feed about every 4th or 5th round. I think the Magtech steel case may have just been a bad batch tho, as my coworker’s PSA Dagger also didn’t like it.

The failures I have usually fall into one of three issues:

  1. Round noses down in the mag and won’t feed until you pull the slide back and relieve the spring pressure
  2. Round catches on bottom of feed ramp and won’t feed, again resolved when you pull the slide back and relieve the spring pressure
  3. Round feeds but slide is left 1/8in out of battery. This is easily resolved by a light push from my thumb on the back of the slide.

These issues have been entirely ammo dependent. We shoot PMC Bronze at my work for range ammo, and I mostly shoot Remington UMC, Magtech brass case, or Hyperion (I get it el cheapo from our company trainer) on my own time. All these brands work perfectly fine and I get zero failures whatsoever. I’ve also had the issues occur when the gun is freshly cleaned as well as after 800 rounds and no cleaning.

I clean and lightly oil my gun every 300-500 rounds and I disassemble and clean my mags about every 1000 rounds.

Any suggestions on what might be going on here, and options to resolve some of these issues?

New to Reloading

Hey all,

I’m looking to start reloading and have been doing a good bit of research over the last few days.

I’m currently looking at a Lee Pro 4000 progressive press kit. Sadly my wife will murder me in my sleep if I spend Dillon money.

I was wondering what else I should be buying in terms of tools? Currently on my list is a scale for double checking powder loads, a cheap digital micrometer for OAL checking, and a powder trickler for adjusting loads. Are there any other tools I should be getting as well?

As for loads, I’m trying to achieve as cheap as possible 9mm while still being reliable. All my reloads will be for plinking since I legally cannot carry reloads on duty and I’d rather trust a manufacturer if my life depends on it anyways.

As for the load itself, I am thinking Capital Cartridge mixed brass, Capital Cartridge RN plated 115g, CFE Pistol powder, and either Remington or Federal primers. That lands me at either 19.7¢/rd or 20.5¢/rd depending on primer. That is assuming a 5g load of CFE Pistol. Looking at 155g Lead RN data on Hodgedon’s manual, they recommend 4.9g-5.4g, but I’m not sure if the plated RN would need a different range.

Material Costs:

CC Washed & Polished Mixed Brass - $45/1000
CC 115g Plated RN - $66/1000
CFE Pistol Powder - $48/lb
Federal Champion Primers - $60/1000

Tooling Costs:
Lee Pro 4000 9mm kit - $287
RCBS 1500g Scale - $38
FA Trickler - $29
Neiko Digital Calipers - $25

Any advice or suggestions regarding tooling or the load itself would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I think I can acquire a decent supply of brass from a range my work uses, so that drops cost down to 16¢/rd.
