Hi everyone!

I'm excited to share that I've been selected for the ISI Kolkata M.Tech CS 2026 program. Since many of us are going through the admission process together, I thought it would be helpful to have a common place where we can connect, share updates, and help each other out.

  • Admission process & offer acceptance

From GATE Set 1 Disappointment to an ISI M.Tech CSE Offer – Don’t Lose Hope

I just wanted to share a little bit of good news with everyone. After GATE CSE Set 1, I was completely devastated. The paper shocked me, and I ended up performing poorly in EXAM as well, scoring in the 5xx range. At that point, I had almost lost all hope and had decided to take a drop.

I appeared for the ISI entrance exam without expecting much, but fortunately, the paper went well for me. I was shortlisted for the interview and have now received a provisional offer for the M.Tech CSE program.

During the interview, the panel mostly focused on mathematics and fundamental CS concepts. Some of the questions they asked were:

  1. Prove why the number of vertices with odd degree in a graph is always even.
  2. Explain the difference between computer architecture and computer organization.
  3. Division by zero is an invalid operation. How does the processor detect this before proceeding with further computations?
  4. Given x₁ + x₂ + ... + x_d = n, how many solutions are there?
  5. If the constraints are x₁ ≥ 1, x₂ ≥ 2, ..., x_d ≥ d, how many solutions are there?

I hope this helps anyone preparing for the ISI interview. If you're feeling disappointed after GATE, don't give up. Sometimes another opportunity works out when you least expect it.

All the best to everyone!
