Lauren Conrad's Houses for the Real Estate Nerds
(All information in this post is public. Addresses are public too, but I'm not including them)
Lauren has owned a number of houses in LA and Laguna Beach through the years. Here's a list...
1. The Infamous Hollywood Hills House
4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms
Feb 2008: Bought for $2.36m
May 2012: Sold for $2m
Lauren lived here with Audrina, Lo, and two other friends from Laguna Beach. Because it wasn't in a gated community, they had to deal with a ton of paparazzi and tours driving by constantly. In 2009, Lauren put it up for rent and she and Lo moved into a rental apartment to get away from the paparazzi. Lauren sold the house at a loss, probably thankful to get rid of it.
2. First Laguna Beach House
4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
May 2009: bought for $2m
Jan 2014: listed for sale for $2.69m, then listing removed two months later
Currently valued at: $5.46m
Near the beach, but only has a "peek-a-boo" view of the ocean. Owned by Lauren to this day and used as an office by her and William (it's across the street from where she currently lives according to her podcast appearance with Whitney).
3. Beverly Hills Condo
2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
Mar 2012: Bought for $1.35m
Feb 2016: Sold for $2.8m
Lauren gutted and renovated this condo before moving into it with her now-husband, William. She gave a tour of it to InStyle in 2014 and talked about renovating it on her podcast, Asking for a Friend.
4. Brentwood House
6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms
Apr 2013: Bought for $3.65m
Sep 2017: Sold for $4.525m
Lauren never gave a tour of this home, so it's possible it was just an investment property and she never lived here.
5. Pacific Palisades House
5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms
Apr 2015: Bought for $4.4m
May 2017: Sold for $4.75m
Lauren lived here with her husband William and gave a tour to My Domaine in 2016.
6. Second Laguna Beach House
3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms
Feb 2014: Bought for $8.5m
Currently valued at: $18m
Lauren currently lives here with William and their two kids.
Was Maura (McManus) Oehm the reason for Lauren and Lo's fallout?
First of all, I am aware that Lauren claims there was no falling out with Lo and they naturally drifted apart. However, I also maintain that that's bullshit. Lo unfollowed Lauren on social media for years and you don't do that if all is fine.
Lo, Maura, and Lauren (and others) were all in a friend group that had grown up together in Laguna Beach. The three of them (plus Audrina and two other girls) were roommates in LA. Lo and Maura were bridesmaids for Lauren in her 2014 wedding.
In 2011, Lauren and Maura launched a fashion line together called "Paper Crown."
Around 2017, Maura and Lauren stopped being pictured together. In spring 2018 the line was suddenly discontinued without a word from either founder. Maura unfollowed Lauren on social media. Lauren has talked about it vaguely in podcasts, saying that she's worked with friends and it hasn't worked out in the past, and it's important to set expectations about roles and responsibilities.
I have no idea when exactly Lo unfollowed Lauren, but I think it was somewhere in this vicinity.
Is it possible that Lo took Maura's side in the friendship breakup? Obviously in 2020 when the Laguna cast did their first reunion, Lo refollowed Lauren and they seem cool since then, so I'm guessing they talked and made up.
Remember when Speidi tried a Laguna Beach recap podcast and no one listened? They must have been so mad when Back to the Beach did well. They blamed their flop on the show instead of themselves! 😂
It is a myth that the Sherman-Palladinos had to change Harvard to Yale
I’ve seen a rumor on Reddit that the Sherman-Palladinos were planning to have Rory go to Harvard but couldn’t. The rumors sometimes say that it’s because Harvard refused to let them film there, other rumors say that it’s because Harvard just didn’t give permission to use it.
This is not true!
Amy Sherman-Palladino has been clear that she knew from the get-go that Rory was going to go to Yale. It was a pivotal part of the arc for Rory that she planned from the start. This is a woman who knew the last four words of the show before it even aired.
- Rory’s arc was always going to be: get closer to her grandparents and have a rift with Lorelai, then rebel against the grandparents, then get pregnant like Lorelai. Going to Yale instead of Harvard was an important part of phase 1. They made her obsessed with Harvard on purpose, so that going to Yale would show the shift in loyalties happening.
- They planned for her to go to Yale because it’s in Connecticut. They needed her to be a quick drive from Lorelai and the grandparents in order for the show to continue when she went to college.
- The college scenes weren’t even filmed at Yale
Why is “blonde dick at Yale” such a burn?
Apologies if I’m missing something obvious. I know I’m ruining the joke by asking Reddit to explain it. But I simply don’t understand why people find this line so amazing. What am I missing?
Random useless information about Lauren and Greg Carney
Gathered from various podcasts, interviews, and books
Greg Carney dated Haylie Duff from about 2005-2007. They worked together on the movie "Material Girls" (he was an executive producer for that movie).
Greg Carney and Frankie Delgado were club promoters together and were on the MTV show Twentyfourseven together (it was canceled and only shot 8 episodes that aired 2006-2007).
In 2007, Lauren and Heidi met Greg Carney, Haylie Duff, and Hilary Duff through Frankie (who was roommates with Talan, Lauren's high school friend).
According to Heidi, something happened that resulted in Greg and Haylie breaking up and Greg and Lauren starting to date around summer 2007. Heidi did not give details, but she did say "that was messy."
Greg and Lauren continued to casually date on-and-off at least through May 2008 when we see Lauren sitting in Greg's lap after the "You Know What You Did" scene. (They were in an "off" period when Lauren and Brody hooked up in October 2007).
Greg was friends with Ryan Skvarla, who was dating a woman named Hannah. Hannah became good friends with both Haylie Duff and Lauren Conrad through the Greg/Ryan friendship. Hannah and Lauren had actually met in 2006 at FIDM Orange County, but fell out of touch and re-met in LA a couple of years later through their boyfriends.
Hannah and Lauren went on to found a nonprofit together called The Little Market and are still very good friends to this day.
Lauren and Haylie were able to put aside their past Greg Carney differences and have since collabed through their mutual friend Hannah, although they don't seem to be close themselves.
Lorelai should have accepted Christopher’s offer to pay her back for Chilton
When Christopher came into money and offered to pay for Chilton, Lorelai should have accepted the money.
He owed her for half of it, at least. And if I’m understanding correctly, he never paid child support so he owed her for that as well.
She was a new business owner and that money could have really helped her.
Also, Rory should have accepted money from Christopher for the first two years of Yale as well so she could pay her grandparents back immediately (I know they wouldn’t actually make her pay it back but I’m assuming she insisted).
Heidi is so full of it. She spent years telling everyone that Lauren had no idea Kristin was taking over The Hills 🙄
Why was Lauren so mad when Brody got a girlfriend while she was in Paris?
Her reaction seemed real - she refused to hug him and gave him a snarky "where's your girlfriend?" when he tried to talk to her.
Interestingly, I also forgot that she explicitly said to Lo before Paris, "I want Brody to WANT to be my boyfriend." And after he got a girlfriend she said to Lo, "Brody has this way of making me feel like I'm not good enough." It strikes me as odd that Lauren would say that if she wasn't into Brody, considering how much she cared about her image on TV.

Why did Lauren uninvite Spencer from The Hills wrap party season 2?
Still trying to work out the timeline for The Hills :)
- February 1, 2007 - Lauren's 21st birthday, pictured on The Hills. Lauren and Heidi are friends again, having recently gone on a girls' trip together. Spencer is present at the birthday party and gives a toast. Everyone seems to be getting along decently well.
- February 14, 2007 - Lauren makes Heidi spend Valentine's Day with her instead of Spencer. This pisses Spencer off (rightfully). Shortly after this, Heidi moves in with Spencer.
- April 2, 2007 - Lauren refuses to let Spencer attend The Hills Season 2 wrap party in NYC. This makes him and Heidi angry, and his anger probably motivated Spencer to leak information to Perez Hilton a few days later.
If everything was fine as of February 1, what happened between February 1 and April 2 that made Lauren say she refused to be at a party Spencer attended? Any thoughts?
As we know from the "Was it Real" podcast, Season 2 was put together all out of order and it's hard to follow exactly what happened between Lauren, Heidi, Spencer, and Brody.
We know for sure that Heidi and Spencer reconnected on September 28th at the Area Club opening after taking a break from each other over the summer. We also know (from People magazine and other celebrity sightings) that Lauren, Heidi, Spencer, and Brody were all hanging out during the month of October 2006 and that Lauren and Brody went on at least one real date (Brody confirmed on "Was it Real" podcast that they started out genuinely exploring romantically but then it quickly became a showmance).
So when did that change? It seems like it all went down in the first 9 days of November 2006.
Heidi's mom's birthday is November 3rd. We know (again, from the "Was it Real" podcast) that Heidi was planning to fly home for her mom's birthday (possibly a few days before November 3rd -- I'll guess November 1st) and then changed her mind and decided to stay in LA. This was the night that Spencer and Brody went clubbing with playmates, which Heidi was in on. We have footage of very real interactions that night:
Lauren happy to see Spencer and shouting \"Spencer! Surprise!\"
Lauren being flirty with Brody
Lauren being flirty with Brody
Jen Bunney's birthday is November 9th. This was the night that Jen was worried Lauren would be mad that Spencer and Brody were there. It was also the night that Spencer and Lauren had that infamous confrontation outside the club. We have footage of very real interactions from that night:
Brody to Jen: \"Why would Lauren be mad at you?\" Jen: \"You!\"
Lauren and Spencer's confrontation happened at Jen Bunney's birthday
So in the few days between November 1st (guesstimate) and November 9th, Lauren completely changed her mind about Brody and Spencer.
Spencer and Heidi's story is that Lauren changed her mind because Brody dumped her. They've maintained this in interviews from 2007 until present day. Here's a 2007 article where Spencer talks about it: https://nypost.com/2007/09/02/everybody-hates-spencer/ "Lauren stopped liking me when the double dating stopped. It happened the night she and Brody ended. The next morning, on camera, she surprises Heidi with, “I don’t like Spencer.”'
Lauren, on the other hand, said on The Hills and in deleted scenes that she didn't like Spencer because he treated Heidi poorly and seemed to want to humiliate her.
Lauren telling Heidi that Spencer is going to screw her over
What is most likely is that Lauren caught on that Spencer and Brody were using Heidi and her to get famous. Perhaps the playmate night was what tipped her off to that? Brody admitted on the "Was it Real" podcast that he hooked up with one of those playmates -- maybe that's what Spencer and Heidi thought Lauren was upset about? Maybe he told her at the playmate night that he just wanted to be friends behind the scenes? What are your thoughts?
According to Heidi on the "Was it Real" podcast, Brody and Lauren took a break from each other after they didn't work out romantically. However, by November 29, 2006, Lauren and Brody were friends again and I believe she was dating Greg Carney:
Lauren and Brody had a lunch on The Hills where they talked about not being ready to date. Brody's hair was cut in the scene, so it was after the November 1st playmate night. My theory is that after they became friends again, the producers made them film a scene talking about how they both just got out of relationships and need to be single for a while to keep up the drama/tension of their on-screen flirtation:
My theory is also that this is why Lauren got mad at Jen Bunney (later, closer to Christmas 2006). Not because Lauren actually liked Brody, but because Spencer (in his "Operation Upstage Lauren" as he called it) had decided to create an onscreen storyline where Jen stole Brody from Lauren, and Jen went along with it. Lauren had already looked dumb on screen with Stephen (Kristin) and with Jason (Jessica), and she was furious that now Spencer was arranging for it to happen a third time, this time with her best friend. Spencer also secretly filmed Jen or Heidi calling Lauren from Brody's condo and asking if she would care if they hooked up, and Lauren was furious about being secretly filmed (and Heidi and Jen allowing it). Lastly, Lauren was angry because Jen said she never kissed Brody and other people (Heidi, Brody) said they did kiss. We'll never know if it happened or not, lol. We know this was close to Christmas 2006, because we see in deleted scenes that Jen was still in the picture when they were putting up the Christmas tree, but then in another scene Lauren said she was no longer buying Jen a Christmas present.
What are your thoughts?
