DET / MIL / LAL

Deal was on Game Theory podcast and thought it was interesting enough to piece together

MIL continues the youth movement in the post-Giannis in the 22 yo Duren.
G: Jaku / Herro / KPJ / Burries
Wings:: Jaquez / Trent / LeVert
F: Kuzma / Dieng / Ament
Bigs: Duren / Ware

DET lands their #2 in Rollins while Turner gives then a competent shooter
Not shown but the ‘31 pick is technically a Super Pick between MIA / MIL
G: Cunningham / Rollins / Daniss / Okorie
Wing: Duncan Robinson / Isaiah Joe / Kevin Huerter
F: Ausar / Holland / Prince
Big: Turner / Collins / Reed

Sims to LAL finalizes a rumored deal and are needed to make the $$ work.

Draft Rumors

Can't cross post, but this is up elsewhere

Been thinking on this scenario for BRK a lot and this confirms it (well... as much as can be in the Rumor Mill).

Really think that we have our eyes set on one of the PGs @ 8. I don't know who it is but this would be one of 2 scenarios that would need to play out basically for Wagler to be there at 8. So if Wagler is our guy, this could be good news.

ATL / CHI / DET / MIA / MIL

Quick Breakdown
ATL: Kuminga, Kispert, Hield, 8, 23 for Giddey, Beef Stew, Rollins
Uses the draft to complete the roster. Their top 8 is really tough: Jalen / Dyson / Giddey / NAW / Okongwu / McCollum / Rollins / Beef Stew. Risacher still around with a path to the court as well.

CHI: Giddey, 15 for Kispert, Hield, 8, 23
New GM gets his Top 10 PG for Giddey, cap space, and dropping from 15 -> 23

DET: Herro for Beef Stew, LeVert, Holland
DET gets a #2 and shooter next to Cade.

MIA: Herro, Jaquez, Ware, Jaku, 13, 2 future 1st for Giannis
Basically the rumored deal

MIL: Giannis, Rollins for Kuminga, LeVert, Holland, Jaquez, Ware, Jaku, 13, 15, 2 future 1st
Trade Giannis but walk out with 13 and 15, 4 guys on 6 guys on rookie contracts, and another one under 25 in Kuminga. Don’t have another 1st for a few years but have enough youth to sort through to keep the team afloat.

ATL / CHI

ATL gets another ball handler to complement budding star Jalen Johnson. Between Johnson, Giddey, and Dyson Daniels they have multiple 3x 2x threats on the court at all times.

CHI accomplishes a couple of goals: gets more athletic, adds some shooting, and acquires a top 10 pick to pair with expected #4 pick Caleb Wilson. For completeness, we'll say they get Mikel Brown at 8.

Another Athletic Article - FAs

Looks like the Athletic is officially shifting the focus to the NBA off-season this week. Released Vecenie's Big Board yesterday and follows up today with Hollinger's top 25 FA List.

As with all these, highly recommend the Athletic to those who are interested. They have a pretty good NBA staff and good a good job overall on Professional sports.

Some notes on the list:

- he is using a formula (called BORD$) to create the values. The formula has biases and blind spots. He only looks @ regular season and seems to use counting stats as a driver. Hence, someone like Walker Kessler is undervalued (due to injury / games played) whereas someone like Jalen Duren is likely overvalued (post season isn't considered). He did call those out specifically in his writeups too so that isn't me pontificating.

- The formula also doesn't appear to take age into (too large) account. Doesn't appear to be the premium for younger players and discounts for older that you'd expect. Could be that bias is his over the formula though as he hasn't talked much about this aspect in the writeups I've looked at

- The list is in 3 sections: Max $$ (1 player), NTMLE < $$ < Max players (8), MLE (16). Appears that the MLE players run out to $21M so he does leave wiggle room in there.

Some of the more interesting names to me (mostly Cs and PGs who we've talk on here):

- Max Player: Duren. (See note above)

- NTMLE < $$ < Max: Austin Reaves ($34.4M); iHart ($32M)

- MLE: Colin Gillespie ($21.4M); Ayton ($19.3M); McCollum ($16.5M); Mark Williams ($16.1M), Walker Kessler ($15.8M - see note above); Ayo ($14.4M)

Kuminga did not make the list. Would think he falls into a similar bucket as Kessler where the lack of GP hurts him a lot in the formula. Would be interested to see if we could project Kuminga's time with us over a 60+ game season.

Vecenie / Athletic Big Board

Haven’t seen this on this sub today. For those who don’t know, these are incredibly detailed and typically run well into the 100+K words range. Some notes on the order:
- 3 PGs rate Wagler (6), Flemings (7), and MBJ (10). 10 ends the tier.
- Mara is 13. Morez Johnson (11) and Steinbach (12) are both higher.
- 23 is in a tier from 16-25 led by Koa Peat
- Another Batch of Gs shows up 17-21 (Anderson, Carr, Okorie, Philon, Stirtz)
- Quaintance (22) and Cenac (25) are the bigs in the range.
- Jefferson (23) and Lopez (24) round out this tier.

Personal fave Tarris Reed comes in at 27.

2 ATL Trade Up Scenarios

Been thinking on ATL and what they’d do at 8. I don’t see Mara as a realistic option there. That new PoBO isn’t one to sit pat. If it looks like the wrong PG is the one to get to 8 then he’ll be looking to trade - up or down. This thread is about them moving up and LAC & BRK have been strongly in the Rumor Mill looking to trade down.

ATL: would likely prefer the BRK deal but it takes 2 to tango. BRK yields the better backup C and more interesting options - the entire Kuminga deal becomes a TPE if another deal isn’t glued to it. LAC deal gets them 1 spot higher but have to add to an already crowded wing situation. Jackson is worse and has a longer contract than the Sharpe too. ATL still walks out with a TPE > NTMLE though so the trade offs are acceptable.

LAC: Might have Kawhi on the table this summer. Kuminga gives them a lineup replacement for Kawhi who is age appropriate to their go forward pieces in Garland and Mathurin. Draft Mara or Burries at 8 then get a strong haul for Kawhi and they’ve done a really impressive rebuild over the past 6 months.

BRK: marches to the beat of a different drummer when it comes to prospect evals. Kuminga is immediately their 2nd best player and a good fit next to MPJ. They can explore Kuminga at high usage too which gives them a bunch of options going forward.
