How long are non-US founders currently waiting for EIN approval from the IRS?

I’m not a US citizen and I recently opened a US LLC. I sent my EIN application to the IRS by fax on April 23rd and still haven’t received anything back yet.

For other non-US founders who went through this process:

  • How long did it take for you to receive your EIN?
  • Is this waiting time normal right now?
  • Did you eventually receive it by mail, fax, or phone?

Just trying to understand if I should keep waiting or follow up with the IRS soon.

For people experienced with Stripe + Shopify + US LLC setups

I recently opened a US LLC and I’m currently waiting for my EIN from the IRS. My plan is to apply for Stripe using a very clean low-risk digital product website first, mainly to establish the business properly before connecting other projects later on.

I’m curious how people who already went through this would approach it today. Would you recommend starting with a very simple “safe” ebook/digital product store first, or does Stripe not really care as long as everything is legitimate and compliant?

Also wondering:

Did you use the same LLC for multiple Shopify stores?

Did you wait for processing history before scaling into other niches/projects?

Anything you would avoid doing in the beginning that could trigger unnecessary reviews or limitations?

Would appreciate advice from people who’ve actually been through the process recently.

Faxed SS-4 to IRS on April 23 — still waiting for EIN????

Hey everyone,

I recently opened a US LLC as a non-US resident and sent my SS-4 form to the IRS by fax to get an EIN.

The fax was sent on April 23 and I still haven’t received anything back yet. I’m from Montenegro Europe, so I’m not sure if international applications usually take longer.

For those who went through the same process:
How long did it take for you to receive your EIN after faxing the SS-4?

Just trying to understand what timeline I should realistically expect.

Thanks.
