Burlesque Cancelled Again!!

So apparently the show has been cancelled again tonight due to cast illness. Rumour has it, it has been cancelled due to no one still being paid.

How can a show do this and not pay its actors? Lawsuit incoming. Terrible stuff!

Guidance

Unsure if I’m allowed to post this here, but I’m hoping someone can offer some perspective.

I’m currently training, and my mentor seems to pick up on the smallest things in every observation, and it’s starting to get quite frustrating. For example, they'll point out that Student X still has their coat on, even though I’ve already reminded them several times and issued a warning for not following instructions. There always seems to be another minor issue being highlighted. Student Y didn't have a sheet within seconds of entering the room after being late (sounds stupid but it's true)!

What I find difficult is that when I observe my mentor teaching, I often notice students doing exactly the same things, yet it can take them much longer to pick up on it. However, when I’m teaching, those same issues are spotted immediately and mentioned in feedback.

I completely understand that observations are there to help me improve, and I’m happy to receive constructive criticism. It’s just starting to feel like I’m being scrutinised for every tiny detail, and I can’t help feeling there’s a bit of a double standard.

Someone recently said to me, “If they’re only picking up on small things, then there can’t be anything seriously wrong,” which did make me wonder whether I’m overthinking it.

Has anyone else experienced something similar during training, or am I just getting too caught up in it?

Jobs

Is it just me, or is the teaching job market really slow at the moment? There seem to be hardly any vacancies around compared to previous years. It feels like more teachers are staying in their current roles rather than moving schools.

A few of my mates have said their schools usually advertise vacancies every year without fail, but this year there's been nothing. There are only two teaching jobs within a 15-mile radius of me, which is pretty shocking. Right now, I can't see myself finding a position for September, which is a real shame as a trainee.

Bandle - Replay

Hi,

I recently guessed "Paradise" by Coldplay, and it now appears in my replay list. Today, I wanted to replay it to test a friend, but when I clicked on it, I wasn't given the option to replay the challenge. Instead, it only lets me listen to the track with all instruments playing.

The song still shows as one I've previously attempted, but I can't seem to replay it. Is there a reason for this?

I've also noticed that I can replay it on my Apple MacBook, but not on my Chromebook. Could this be related to the device or browser I'm using? Don't want to be restricted to one laptop as I tend to swap depending if I'm on my work / personal one. Everything else such as dated is synced across both.

Thanks for your help.

Tom Xander - Beetlejuice

From what I've heard, this seemed to be a very last-minute change. Apparently he had little to no Act 2 experience and hadn't even had a full run-through of the show yet. The performance started a few minutes late, so I'm wondering if that was connected to the cast change? It looks like David was unable to perform due to personal reasons.

Whatever the reason, Tom absolutely smashed it. He was hilarious, charismatic, and brought so much energy to the role. You would never have guessed he was stepping into such a demanding part under those circumstances. The audience seemed to love him, and I thought he was fantastic.

Was anyone else at yesterday's matinee? I'd love to hear what other people thought of his performance.

One other thing I've been wondering about is the set design. How do they actually change between the different versions of the house throughout the show? Is it essentially one main set that's transformed through lighting, projections, and removable pieces, or are there multiple house sets involved? The transitions are so seamless that I'm really curious how it's done!

I need to book again!
