Public pension taxed in Massachusetts
I'd really appreciate help in settling this question. I am a retired NY teacher receiving a public pension. As a NYS resident I do not pay state income tax on my pension. If I move to Massachusetts, will my NYS public pension be subject to Massachusetts state income tax? After Googling this subject, my understanding is that I would receive a $20,000 exemption and the rest of my NYS public pension will be taxed, because this is how Massachusetts public pensions are treated by NY for NY residents. My tax preparer says that if I become a Massachusetts resident, my NYS public pension would not be taxed by Massachusetts. Who is correct?
