Finally did some damage

Love this bike, it’s been through shit and I’ve never had an issue.

This time is different, wondering if anyone can chime in.

Dropped the bike on the trails and bent the shifter pretty bad, it was both twisted and bend against the engine case.

I had limited means to try and bend it back, a stick, and my boots to stomp on it to try and straighten it.

I got it bent back and tried to continue out of this swampy area but it would only shift up - wouldn’t shift down. I believe the bending back process did the damage not the initial drop.

Ultimately I had to call for help my first time ever for a rescue as I was stuck in 6th gear. Just barely managed to drag it out of the bush swamp and up some hills before dark. Took everything I had pulling / pushing it through the mud.

I plan on opening up the bike to see what’s going on but wondering if this has happened to anyone and what the most likely culprits might be or what to look for.

Ride safe!

How often do you guys change your oil ?

We all know the interval is quite generous on the CRF300L. 12,800km / 1 year.

I ask because I put on only about 1000km on the bike last season. This season is looking to be the same.

My question is, how often do you guys change your oil / filter ?

Arguments for changing it in the fall vs the spring ?
