Pulled the trigger on a Yacht Master
So I went into the AD a couple of weeks ago to get on “the list” for a modern Datejust (inherited a 1988 two tone Oysterquartz from my grandfather in 2009) and honestly the waiting game and developing a fake relationship with jewelry store employees to buy a product just turned me off.
I ended up doing a lot of research and purchased an unworn, never sized 2023 Yachtmaster 40 on Chrono24 for $15,100. It comes with the box and papers, the extra links etc a full set. I’m not a collector of any kind and won’t be constantly seeking allocations so I truly feel paying the $1800 premium over a brand new one was worth it for me to not have to play the game and wait. I understand completely why people go the AD route, but for me it wasn’t something I was interested in doing.
I now will have two Rolexes, both of which were controversial releases for Rolex. The Oysterquartz was hated for years but now has a cult following and the YM it seems people either love them or hate them.
My decision came because I already have a DJ so two of the same models watches wouldn’t be very versatile. Submariners are the most replicated watch and I see them everywhere, they are fantastic watches obviously but the solid colored bezels looked too bulky for my style. I found the YM 40 with the rhodium dial and platinum bezel is a lot more subtle than the subs or GMTs and is really a piece that can go with absolutely anything from jeans to a suit.
This isn’t my first Rolex, but it is the first one I’ve bought for myself and I’m extremely excited for it to come in. If anyone has else has a YM feel free to chime in!
