Wallops Flight Facility now under Kennedy Space Center? Pros/Cons?

Hi y'all,

I just saw that the Wallops Flight Facility got moved from being under the Goddard Space Flight Center and is now under the Kennedy Space Center.

I was wondering what people think the pros and cons of this are?

I used to work for the NASA Langley Research Center, which originally made Wallops, but Wallops got put under Goddard, and I did not get to interface with Wallops or Kennedy.

NASA Protective Services

Protective Services at NASA consists of Law Enforcement, Security, and Emergency Management.

NASA Security Police Officers are contracted, but they have federal arrest authority.

NASA Special Agents are Civil Servants and 1811’s, and also have federal arrest authority.

Florida Property Tax Impacts for EM

General Overview:

Desantis, the Florida Governor, has proposed eliminating property tax. It will be on the ballot in November. Property tax is the main source of funding for Local EM Offices in Florida. Most Local Governments in FL are 100% funded by property tax. This is happening so the state can take control over funding for local governments.

Libraries, Community Services, Parks & Recreation, Public Works, Utilities, Environment Protection, Mosquito Control, etc; will be completely eliminated at the city and county levels. Anything that is not statutorily required will essentially be eliminated. Even then, it will be just meeting the minimum requirements.

The State of Florida is making a state controlled fund for Public Safety, which includes fire departments, EMS departments, 911, police departments, and sheriffs offices. The EM Community and lobbyists in Florida were working to try to get Emergency Management under Public Safety. Politicians in Tallahassee said they understood this, and said they would try to add it.

On the night on June 3rd, there was a late night meeting in Tallahassee, which finalized this proposed bill and the public safety fund.

Unfortunately, Emergency Management is not included.

This means that funding for local EM offices in FL will essentially be destroyed.

It needs 60% to pass, and it's definitely gonna pass because people don't understand the impacts that this would have, it's one less tax to pay, and it's Florida.

Those Healthcare, University, and and Aviation EM jobs in FL are about to get much more competitive!

I'm posting this on here so others can be aware of what's going on in Florida EM right now.

I'm also curious as to how other EM's outside of FL would handle the impacts of something like this?
