Slaf’s buddy Šimon Nemec reportedly wants out — should Hughes kick tires?
Slovak outlet Denník N reports that Šimon Nemec has requested a trade from New Jersey through his agent, citing a trusted source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The same report says the Devils would be looking for a young top-six forward in return if they move him. San Jose and St. Louis are mentioned as teams to watch, but it made me wonder from a Habs perspective.
Nemec is a 22-year-old right-shot D, former 2nd overall pick, Slovak national team buddy of Slafkovský, and still an RFA. Obviously, Montreal already has a crowded young blue line, but high-upside RHDs are not exactly easy to find.
Would you want Kent Hughes to at least make a call? And since New Jersey reportedly wants forward help… how many seconds would it take them to hang up if we offered Filip Mešár? 😅
More seriously, what would be a realistic Habs offer — if there even is one?
