Training on hills
If I’m running uphill should I be shortening my stride until I get to the top or is it better to try and keep it consistent?

Started a workout plan for half marathon in September. Missed my Friday workout because of TStorm, and Saturday I let procrastination win. Sunday I started questioning if I was going to take it serious and procrastinated again…Today I said f it, get your ass out there and finish what you started…I honestly did a lot better than I thought I would.
This was the first time in my life iv ever ran further than 2mi in one go. At the end of 3.1 I still had .2mi until I got home, so I tried to kick and finish strong…..LOL my body swiftly rejected that after about 4 strides and I walked the rest of the way home completely exhausted. I know it’s just the first of many hurdles to come both mentally and physically, but damn does it feel good to get it done!
Last week I for some reason decided to let my cousin register me for a run to try to beat my brother-in-law when I have never ran recreationally in over 2 decades, and really havent done much of anything athletic since college in 2011. It wasn’t until after I was registered that I found out it was half marathon in SEPTEMBER lol (he JUST started working out for 1 month b4 hand, so I thought it’d be an easy run…boy was I wrong)
I went to run 1 mile and it was horrible, I started off way too fast and completely burnt out before even reaching half a mile, I walked and pathetically jogged the rest of the mile. (I must’ve looked like a wounded animal on its last leg) From there, my pride took a huge hit and I ended up posting to try to get some help.
I started a plan so that I could get some structure and prepare the right way, and from 3 days I can honestly say I feel a noticeable difference in my breathing but that may just be because I’m not starting out at like 80% speed. It’s only been three days so I know there’s not gonna be much of an actual difference that quick but I would like to know how I look so far. I’m 6ft 155lbs.
I was manipulated by my cousin (who is a runner) into a competition against my brother in law (not a runner)…This will be both of our first runs ever, an neither of us run. He played basketball in college, and I played football. If I win the race is free, if I lose I gotta pay my cousin back for the registration fee. The race is in September, and know nothing about running, is it as simple as just start running? Figured I’d start with 2mile runs and see how that goes, and increase distance.
