A+ Certified lessss goooo

Felt a lot worse about core 2, but I scored pretty similar to core 1. Good luck to everyone getting their A+!

On-campus housing

Freshman receive priority for dorms, correct? I’ve scoured all of the website, but I’ll have found is multiple pages saying it’s first come first serve. The only thing I have found is a Battalion article from 2014 saying freshman do have priority starting in 2015. Despite the lack of resources the consensus I’ve heard is priority goes to freshman.

Internships

I’m looking to apply for internships as a DCT. I assume applications at hyperscalers open around late August- early September? And tier II companies after? I’m a CS major with A+ and experience working with PCs and laptops so I think I have a good chance. Ideally I want to intern with Google because of things I’ve seen here.

Summer STAT212 w Crawford

Is anyone taking the summer online section of stats 212 with Crawford? Anyone taken it previously and willing to share advice would be appreciated. His intro video makes it appear scary cause he says things like it’s not going to be easier because it’s a summer course. Just wanted to know what it’s actually like and I think I’ll be fine.

A+ Core 1 or Core 2 more difficult?

For those who took the A+, which exam did you find to be more difficult? I just scheduled core 1 for early July and I hope to have passed core 2 around the end of August.

Data Center Internships and Skls

What kinds of opportunities are there to intern as a DCT? What kinds of things do I need to have experience in besides troubleshooting and basic networking? I’m very interested in starting out in a data center before transitioning to network engineering long term.

Seeking resume and career advice

Just a college student wanting to know how current my current resume stacks up. Currently I’m 3 semesters away from graduating with a degree in CS. The job markets bad everywhere, but probably especially so for programmers and so I’m heavily considering making the switch to IT as a career

Right now I’m doing an internship with the IT department at a small school district. It’s nothing glamorous, but it’s experience, and I only got it because I know people within the district. I spend most of my time powerwashing and taking inventory on Chromebooks, though I make sure to ask questions about the servers and other stuff, etc. I can definitely frame this as a positive experience later on.

I also just booked my core 1 exam for the A+. Hoping to finish that up by the end of the summer when I’ll be starting as a student computer repair technician. For that job, they’re requiring me to get certifications for Apple, Dell, Lenovo, and Microsoft products.

Then there’s a bunch of stuff I want to do that sounds interesting. Getting a second, more specific internship for next summer and another certification are at the top of the list. I like working with my hands so I’m really leaning networking. Between work, school, and other commitments a home lab over winter break sounds very feasible. Getting all of this accomplished before graduation and having roughly 1-1.5 years of total experience feels like a solid foundation, but with the way things are going for new grads not confident.
