Church Recommendations

I 20M have recently moved to College Station. And I'm looking for a church with a strong intergenerational men's group and church. I'm not in college or planning to be so I have a hard time relating to my peers in the area. I grew up going to Methodist and Baptist Churches. Personally I prefer a traditional service and sermon. I would really like to have an active and spiritually fulfilled connection with a men's group of mixed ages and life stages.

No offers for ET@M?

What would cause my kid with a 3.2 get no offers for ETAM? He listed Mechanical, aerospace, petroleum, mechatronics, MXET in that order. Perhaps these were aspirational, but why would he get nothing at all? He has to reapply in the fall but I’m not sure what he did wrong to get nothing, even a major he didn’t list would be better than nothing. I understand his GPA should be higher but I’ve seen students with lower
GPAs get offered SOMETHING. He had a leadership position in an engineering related student club and an engineering related internship. Does ETA@M not take that in to account?

Freshman Parking

My daughter is a freshman and we’re trying to figure out parking as she is taking her car. We’re not seeing any permits available anywhere. Do they sell out for each semester/year? What do we do if so?

Tuition Code Rate

Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming Fall 2026 transfer student with about 65 transfer credits, so I’m expecting around 4 semesters left, maybe 5 worst case.

My tuition rate options are TVR_VARI, TLR_2526, and TLR_2627. I’m leaning TVR_VARI since variable seems cheaper and should be frozen through 2026–2027.

For transfers with about 2 years left, did you choose variable or locked? Did variable end up being the better choice?

Thanks!

Living on NG is overrated

I lived on NG for 2 years and I wish I didn't. I did not have car and would rely heavily on the bus and my friends for rides. This is MY experience. (obvi everyone's is not going to be the same)

Now that I have graduated, I realize just how much money I wasted. The cons outweigh the pros for me. Pros: close-ish to campus, close to the bars, lots of food options. Cons: lots of construction (the construction would literally disrupt my sleep), over-priced asf, lots of traffic when you're driving anywhere.

I wish I lived somewhere cheaper. NG is also not close to West Campus. I am glad I no longer live there cause there's been a significant increase in rent at most places. $900 is like the cheaper side (which is insane)

For any Aggies who are looking at the NG area for apartments. PLS do your research.

Engineering Academies Experience?

I was recently admitted as an Engineering Academy student, where I can take A&M courses at my "home" community college campus. I'm hesitant to accept my admission though, for a few reasons...

  1. I know it'll be more expensive than what I pay right now (free) for my courses (paying A&M credit prices)
  2. The "home" campus is an hour long commute away.
  3. I'm not a super big TAMU fan, not sure if I see myself transferring after in the next year.

However, I do understand that having TAMU on my resume will make networking easier, and make my resume more attractive for the next recruiting cycle. I can also make some good connections, and experience a top engineering school's level of academics.

Can any previous Engineering Academy students offer me some advice on this one?

Study Group (Engineering)

Hello, last semester I struggled with finding a great study group. This semester I want to do better and find people to actually lock in and study with. I’m going to be taking math 308 and phys 206 next semester bc I didn’t pass it last semester. Is anyone down to study with me for this upcoming semester? It would greatly be appreciated.

Laptop recs

I wanna go into mechanical engineering so I wanna know if you really need a discrete gpu or is it fine if you have an integrated one? Do most engineers at TAMU have gaming laptops? My problem is that they’re way too bulky and I don’t really want to carry that around all the time.

TAMU Residence Life

Which residence hall is the best to live on campus at Texas A&M? I am currently signed up to live in Hobby Hall but could potentially switch to Mosher, Lechner, or Wells. I am an engineering major and want to live in a social dorm if at all possible. Also, I know some of the dorms have a reputation for smelling unpleasant. Please tell me the vibes of all of the on campus housing, even outside the ones I mentioned!

Some things I have heard:
• Lechnerd ???
• Musty mosher 💔

Incoming transfer — what should I do before NSC?

Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming Fall 2026 transfer student majoring in Financial Planning. My NSC is July 17, and I’m trying to make sure I’m ready.

My checklist still shows FAFSA, housing, AP/IB scores, and Tuition Rate Code as incomplete. Housing/AP scores may not apply to me, so I’m mostly worried about the tuition rate code.

I have about 65 transfer credits, so I think I have around two years left. I already emailed my advisors to ask about what classes I still need, but I haven’t heard back yet.

A few questions:

  1. What should I prioritize before NSC?
  2. Is it normal for advisors to take a bit to respond before NSC?
  3. How should transfer students decide on the tuition rate code?
  4. Where do I sign up for the online orientation, and what do you actually do there?
  5. Anything you wish you did before NSC?

Thanks for any advice!

Water quality question

I’m an incoming freshman, and I was wondering what the water is like at tamu. Is it hard or soft water? I’m used to soft water at home, and whenever I stay in hotels or travel somewhere else, the water feels so different and usually seems a lot harder. I’m thinking about buying a WaterStick for my shower, but I wanted to see what others have to say before I get it. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks

Give me advice plz

Wsp yall. I'm an incoming freshman for engineering and my top two majors of choice would either be MEEN or MMET. I've heard that the et@m process is very stressful for freshman and I want to be as prepared as possible as I'm a first gen student. For anyone who has et@m'ed already, how was your first year? What clubs or resources should I be aware of when I set foot onto campus? How do I stay locked in while not screwing over my health? Also if it helps I'd wanna go into the aerospace sector after graduating.
Any info helps, thanks for your time.

Laptop choice for engineering

I’m looking at either the 2 in 1 Dell 14 plus or the Lenovo Slim 7i.

I’m going into engineering btw. Hopefully mechanical.

Difference is the dell is on a deal at 850$ and the Lenovo is 1200$. Both have similar specs. 1 TB ssd, ultra core 7 processor. Only difference is ram. Lenovo is 32 gb and dell is 16gb.

Build quality of Lenovo seems superior though. Which one should I get?

Thefertilizerguy.com guy road raging with Aggie bus.

I totally just watched this guy in his company truck road raged an Aggie bus. He pulled in front of the bus and stopped just as the bus was crossing the tracks. Forcing the bus to stop on the tracks with a bus full of passengers. His website says Aggie owned. Definitely would not do business with this guy putting Aggie students in danger like this. He obviously can’t control his temper. I wouldn’t want someone with a temper like this around my house or kids. Dude could not wait a few more seconds for the green light behind the bus to cross the tracks that he felt he had to drive around the bus and cut it off forcing it to stop on the tracks putting all those students in danger.

Is 13 credit hours enough for fall freshman year electrical engineering, or should I take more?

So I was admitted directly to electrical engineering because of national merit, and had my nsc for course registration yesterday. I had a lot of AP credits, so I decided to transfer some of them, and I registered for these courses for this fall: POLS 207 (state govt), ENGR 181 (honors seminar), ECEN 248 (digital systems), MATH 251 (Calc 3), ENGR 102H (intro programming), and FYEX 101 (Hullabaloo U). This adds up to 13 credit hours. Do y’all recommend I add more?
