Should I join the corps for the uniform?

I think it looks tuff. I want to take the first day of class photo in the uniform. Not in the hat though. The little hat looks dumb, so I'll just never wear it. I'm sure that won't get me in any trouble at all.

Hate to rub things in, but wanted to celebrate our drop success!!!

Me and my brother will be 20 and 18 for LA28, and we've been talking about going since I was 15 and he was 13, and we started planning in January. We had our whole family make accounts, we penny pinched like crazy for months off of some teenage jobs, and we had some real luck with 2 of us getting 10am slots. For 2500 total (1250 each) we got:

7/21 Womens Foil Fencing Semi Final - $28

7/21 Mens Basketball Prelim 2 Games - $249.53

7/21 Mens Vollyeball Prelim - $28

7/22 Mixed Rowing Finals - $93.02

7/22 Womens Flag Football Medals - $179.84

7/23 Mens Handball Quater Final - $37.21

7/23 Mixed Athletic Final - $620.15

Total = 1,235.75 × 2 = $2471.50

We had a super idealistic dream schedule we obviously couldn't get. Womens 10m diving final was way pricier than we thought it would be, we spent a bit more than we wanted on athletics, and we wanted to see swim, gymmastics, and my brother really wanted mens flag football, but our budget was already ~2400, so we both know that it was never going to actually happen. We are SUPER happy with our lineup.

Going to the olympics in our home country isn't quite a once in a life time experience, but going with so few responsibilities, as we will be students and its the summer, might be. We are so dang excited.

How to do nuclear R&D

Hello!

I'm 18, and in the fall I will be attending Texas A&M to study engineering. I am in general my 1st year, and after that I will get to pick my specofoc major. For those who know about the process there, due to a scholarship, I automatically get my 1st choice major after my freshmen year. I know A&M is a good engineering school, and it has a well established mechanical program and a growing nuclear program.

I would love to do nuclear research and design. I wanted to be a mechanical engineer for the longest time, but for some reason I had never even though about nuclear power. I taught myself basic particle physics for my high school's science team, and I really enjoyed it. I know NucE is a lot more than particle physics, but point is I am very interested, and the more I think about it, the more I want to do it.

I'm mainly wondering what doing nuclear r&d is like (projects, pay, work/life balance, etc), and how to do it. How many internships do I need in undergrad? I can major in NucE if I would like, but I've seen things saying you need at least a masters to do NucE r&d, so idk if it might be better to just stick ro mechanical. Absolute dream job right now would be nuclear r&d for NASA, just bc I would love to work on space projects, but I'm also totally aware I have a very idealistic and likelt unrealistic view of what working at NASA is like from movies, so that may very well change.

tldr; I want to do nuclear engineering r%d, and I want to know what it's like and how I will get there.

Best souvenir gift?

I'm moving out for my freshmen year of college in 4 weeks, but before that I go to London for 2 weeks. I thought it would be a good idea to get everyone in my family a souvenir gift and give it to them before I move. I have lots of free time and from what I've seen and heard, there are huge shopping streets in London.

I don't travel much, when I have, I have never gotten any gifts. I'm kind of struggling to comprehend how to find a balance between cool souvenir, something the person would actually like, and price. I was wondering if anyone had some souvenirs they have either been gifted or gifted that they thought were great. I don't really want to spend more than 200 bucks on the 4 of them, or 150 pounds.

If you want specifics, my brother is 16 and really into hockey specifically, sports, and broadcasting/photography. He also likes watches and shoes, but those I'd imagine are both pretty expensive. My sister is 14 and likes dance, makeup, and nails. My mom and dad are both pretty sentimental.

Front ensemble tips and packets?

I'd like to say that I'm lowkey sorry to ask this here I just don't have anyone else to ask. If thete is a better place to go please let me know.

I am so set on drum corps for summer 2027, and I want to start practicing right now. I'm from a big texas school so I'm hoping to go for a top 12 corps, because I also think I will only do this once.

I was wondering if anyone had any audition packets I could look at. I'll still buy the official 2027 ones when they come out, but I want to start practicing now, especially because I just graduated high school so I don't have much else to practice and I do genuinely enjoy playing my instrument. I'm most namely intrested in Phantom Regiment, but any top 12 packet would be appreciated.

Additionally, if anyone has any advice that is applicable this far out from auditioning, please let me know.

I was also wonderong if anyone had experience with virtual private lessons, and if they thought they worked. I am thinking about doing some.

Should I take a class with an unassigned professor?

I want to take Math 251 my first semester of college because Calc BC went really well for me, and I'm 90% sure I got at least a 4. I also automatically get my first choice major as a National Merit Semifinalist, so I'm not worried about inflating my GPA. The problem is because it's a sophomore class, from what I've seen, they don't reopen seats at every NSC. I've been messing around in aggie schedule builder, and there are 2 open sections with had professors, and one with an unassigned professor.

If I take math 251 my freshmen year, getting a math minor is super easy, and I kind of want one because why not. That might not be the best mindset lol but I like math.

So is it worth gambling on a professor? Or should I just cut my losses and not take math 251. I'm in the honors college so after this semester I get priority scheduling (I think).

This question was asked like a year ago, and people kept asking OP if it was a math class, and OP would say no, so I'm curious what the consensus was if it was a math class.

I'm 18 and still haven't graduated high school and would kind of like people who are not in the crap show that is high school to give some input because idk.

My sophomore year of high school, so when I was 15 years old, my 2 best friends, also female, were in a math class with a male AP Precalculus teacher. They were both a year older than me, so they were in the grade above. He seemed really cool. He'd let people stay in his room after school, and he was also genuinely just a good teacher, and his students did very well. As the year got further, my two best friends tended to be the people that went up on his offer to stay in his room after school, and that eventually included me.

When I became a junior, I also got him as my Precalculus teacher. I was really excited. The first semester of my junior year was also probably the roughest period of my life. At one point, the cops were called on me, so I was called to the student support counselor during his class. (Ftr, I didn't attempt nor was I planning to attempt anything, but some people thought I was going to, and it was honestly a valid call). The next day, he asked if I was okay, and I spilled because I trusted him, and getting the cops called on you doesn't exactly blow over well with parents obv so I liked having someone else to talk to.

What's also important is that my 2 best friends, now seniors in high school, also had rough years. One of them had a very rough home life, we I'll call Mary, and the other, who I am closer with, which I'll call her Jane, has an extremely textbook case of ADHD, but the effects of that created a lot of tension with her family, and they were kind of against her getting diagnosed as well. So I would say almost objectively the three of us were likely more vulnerable than the average girl.

Well this teacher really genuine, and he also had ADHD so he became a trusted person for Jane. Additionally, me and Jane were in band together. We would both be at the school practicing sometimes, and he also stayed in his room late just grading and stuff. So Jane spent a lot of time in his room after school, me a little less but me as well. Him and Mary would watch me and Jane's band concerts. This company was often in addition to the female calculus teacher who is now my teacher. Not sure whether this is related or unrelated, but she now does not spend as much time in her classroom. He was with my two friends a little more than he was with me.

I wasn't as close with Mary as I was with Jane, so I can really only speak for Jane. But, she would tell me how his classroom was probably like her one safe space, outside of her own room. In hindsight, the whole thing might have been little weirdly co-dependent. But he was also always super genuine. Jane was extra-cautious for her own personal reasons. Though, you could also argue the other side, and say without his classroom, Jane genuinely wouldn't have had another safe space and that would be that.

Well one day, Mr. Teacher isn't in class. And on day turns into two, to three, to the last month of the school year. Throughout this time, rumors pick up. The biggest is that he was grooming Mary. This came from the school's color guard coming back, and Mr. Teacher was walking Mary to her car. He would walk us to our cars if we were in his room and it got dark outside. I think this started after Jane had a weird experience in the parking lot where she got trapped in a spot by a pickup truck, to which Mr. Teacher got the guy driving the pickup truck to leave, so it could be disregarded? Rumors spiraled to Mr. Teacher and Mary in the car together, some say they were kissing. That did not happen. Jane also got some rumors about her. It was a mess. Mary wanted to get out of the town so bad (because she was going to college the next year) she no longer talks to me. Me and Jane are still close friends.

A lot of shit hit the fan because of this. Mary and Jane's friend group completely fell apart. One of my friends was actually close friends with someone from the other side of the friend group explosion, and it actually originated around Mr. Teacher. At the time, I thought he just genuinely cared about his students, and ended up being too unprofessional about it to where it looked wrong. She thinks we were vulnerable, and he was praying on us with that. I don't know. He was honestly always so genuine. Mary and Jane once even blatantly asked him about his intentions, and he said if they ever wanted to have a conversation like that again, bring a parent with them because he never wants to put them in a situation where they think he is a monster. He also commented once about how he had a mentally unwell friend he later realized was a pdf and made a comment about he was a monster.

In the moment, it was all so genuine. Even now it still seems genuine. What that friend said about us being preyed on and vulnerable was the first time anyone actually told me what they thought because people either reference him as a diddy joke, most common, or if they know me avoid the topic. I never thought it would be refreshing for someone to look me in the eyes and say they think I was groomed, but it was very refreshing to hear someone else say something about it. Because I still don't know what happened. Could anyone else see this as genuine care, just poorly observed? Or is it too fishy? It's hard to see myself as a victim because I never felt uncomfortable, so it's a very confusing position for some people to think you are one.

If you got this far, thank you for listening.
