Repair or Replace...
I have a 14 year old Dyson DC33. I noticed it wasn't doing much for the carpets last week and started troubleshooting. From what I can tell, I believe the clutch that turns the belt to the roller is failing. It will turn briefly when the head is tilted to engage or if you push the roller with you finger, but it only rotates for a second or two.
Our home was almost entirely carpet when we purchased it 14 years ago. Now, our home is all hardwood flooring with area rugs. I have found the clutch assemblies for around $50 and could probably manage to replace it. Before I go that route, I am curious if there are better options for use on hardwood and rugs. My wife would also like something that is easier to use on our furniture. We don't have inside pets, but with five ladies in the house, their hair kept the Dyson roller in a perpetual state of a tangled mess.
I would be looking for something in under $300 and would probably stick with a corded option. I am not sold on the battery stick vacuums yet. I know the budget is limiting, but I am not convinced we need more than that. Any suggestions or recommendations?
