Develop or Trade?

It seems this game distinguishes between Technologies that the AI prioritizes highly and those it prioritizes less. They have no interest in Aesthetics or Literature; on the contrary, they focus heavily on researching Iron Working and Machinery.

Personally, I think the Technologies you should research yourself and those you should acquire through trade can be categorized as follows:

  1. Research: Masonry, Bronze Working, Writing, Aesthetics, Literature, Theater, Music, Philosophy, Code of Law
  2. Trade: Mathematics, Architecture, Engineering, Monarchy, Feudalism, Theology, Metal working

What do you all think? Please share your opinions.

No one will send a Missionary.

I think it’s the consensus of everyone here that we should spread our state religion to cities within our territory before adopting Pacifism. Even before that, adopting Organized Religion will allow us to build structures and heritage sites more quickly.

Until then, we’ll need to either found our own religion and spread it throughout the country or adopt a religion from another civilization, but I feel that Missionaries are unlikely to come, especially at low difficulty levels like Settler or Chieftain. That said, it’s difficult for our civilization to monopolize Buddhism/Hinduism/Judaism, and the mighty Aztecs and Spain make no secret of their anger.

  1. Found our own religion, prepared for religious conflict
  2. Open our borders and wait for Missionaries from other civilizations

Which is the better option? If I choose option 1, I’d also like some advice on which religion to choose (Polytheism/Monotheism or Code of Law/Philosophy).
