I went to a small town yesterday to see this machine and others at a Studebaker show. Very very cool! This thing did 170 MPH in 1963, with a backseat! Also made of fiberglass like the Vette, they are a masterpiece designed by Raymond Loewy. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to save the company, and Studebaker closed production a few years later in '66. However, the rights to the Avanti nameplate and design lived on all the way into the 2000s as the Avanti II.
