“OMG— I love your dog’s haircut”

“OMG— I love your dog’s haircut”

Does this happen to anyone else? Lol. I don’t think folks are seeing enough hairless CCs because someone says this literally every single time he is in public. Us— “His hair grows like that naturally.”

Just wondering, first time crested owner. 🙃

Cystic acne?

We’ve done pretty well keeping our 22week hairless’s skin relatively healthy. He, of course, gets a zit sometimes, he has some clogged pores in certain areas but overall his skin is good, smooth. So over the past week we noticed the back of his neck has sort of broken out? Idk if that’s even the correct way to describe it— basically he has like a dozen small zit sized bumps on his neck. You can’t see the bumps, there is no discoloration, there is no fluid (coming to head), you can just feel the lumpiness. They sort of feel like a cystic zit but not as hard? He was just checked out at the vet last week and they said his skin looked good; we noticed the bumps two days later…

#1– Does anyone know what the bumps are?
#2– What could be the cause? Allergies or irritation?
#3– Advice would be very much appreciated! He has a routine that has been great for 3 months but maybe I should include an r/x wash or something like David rinse for acne?

1st time Crested mom, joints pop?

My pup is 21 weeks now and sometimes his little joints pop, usually in the back legs. Seems strange with his age but I’ve never owned a crested or any tiny deer type dogs. It doesn’t bother him and he’s a little speed racer so maybe I’m being paranoid?

Cleaning carpet runners

Hello! We got a puppy in the Spring and my runners have taken the brunt of his potty training mishaps. I think a deep clean is in order and my thought was to hose and scrub outside then hang to dry. Does that sound like the best course of action?

Dog hair product recommendations?

My 20wk old puppy used to have an amazing, natural mohawk. Other the past 3 or 4 weeks his hair has thickened— which I love, his dad had a thick head of white hair— but it’s so heavy it splits down the center. 😆 Looks like Dwight’s hair (the Office).

Does anyone use the hair products, like mousse or gel, marketed for dogs? I don’t want to use all the time, just on occasions— sort of figured some of y’all probably have show dogs and use hair products.

Oh! And speaking of hair products— do the dog safe hair dye stain white hair? I love his white puff, wouldn’t want to risk the color.

20wk puppy is regressing

My 20wk male hairless crested seems to be regressing hard. He is our 5th puppy and I don’t remember any of them regressing like this. He pretty much remembers “sit” and that’s all. The nail clip training, crate training, bath training, harness training, “come” & “down”, even potty training (accidents back to his 9week old behavior). He now runs if he doesn’t want to do something (or nips)— runs and barks while you’re trying to get a harness on or wipe his butt. And he’s a crested, he’s basically greased lightning.

He’s in puppy kindergarten so I plan to ask his teacher but any advice on how to handle early teenage phase would be appreciated. Definitely would love advice on the nail training, what worked before does not work now (clipping a skewer near his foot, tapping the clipper on his foot; each time gets praise & treat). Now he attacks the clippers so we need another option. He’s ripping us apart right now. 😬

Senior dog VS 19wk puppy

We got a new puppy in May and recently, the past two weeks or so, he’s taken to beating the snot out of my senior girl. She’s always been feisty, never let her older brother boss her around even though she was the smaller. But with the puppy— she won’t defend herself at all, not even a snap or bark. Just whimpers and takes it.

Idk if the puppy is playing at this point or just aggressive because she’s not fighting back. Not sure how to proceed other than what we’ve been doing: picking her up or trying to distract him with a toy.

He’s still about two pounds smaller than her but in a month or so he will be the larger of the two, as an adult 4 or 5lbs heavier. Don’t want to constantly babysit but I definitely don’t want him to accidentally hurt her.

Strange predicament: puppy won’t potty on walks

So my puppy is 19 weeks old and was cleared for walks last week. He is doing surprisingly well, little skittish but great otherwise. EXCEPT he will not pee. So each walk ends, even the short ones, with him whining and trying to tug us home. It’s slightly laughable because he is still potty-training and having accidents inside. I’ve never dealt with this before! My last male pup, even as a baby, loved walks and peed/marked everything until he no longer had anything left.

Open to any suggestions at this point!

Hairless pup legs scratched up

I’m new to owning a hairless pet so it breaks my heart to see my sweet baby with a fresh scratch nearly every day. They are usually on the inside of his front paws and I’m starting to think it happens when he gets the zoomies, the back claws scratching the front. He runs like a greyhound racer, the back legs meeting the front, if that makes sense.

So I guess my question— Is this normal? And do hairless crested scratch easily?

His nails are cut but it is taking longer to get him used to/trained to handle the dremel. Idk. I just feel so bad.

Weird question from 1st time crested parent

Do hairless pups just feel more baby-like because they’re soft like a bony infant? It’s a question my husband and I keep asking ourselves. Lol. We kiss our 17wk puppy way more than we have ever kissed our previous dogs and other pup— and don’t get me wrong, all of our dogs are well loved and we have a sweet baby angel shihtzu that is adored beyond words but do we wake up and blow raspberries into her neck? No.

It’s a silly question but I am honestly curious if there is some weird correlation between small & hairless and our human instinct around babies. 🤭

Sunscreen for sensitive skin pup?

Hello! I have a spotted hairless and I’d like to keep his skin healthy and also preserve his pink. The majority of his skin I can keep covered with sun shirts/suits but head and neck are exposed. He refuses to wear a hat so my only option is sunscreen. I’ve tried to avoid because his skin is super sensitive and he’ll scratch himself to the point of breaking skin but there has to be a viable option right? Anywho, any recommendations are appreciated.

Tips for tackling an enclosed balcony

My new-ish house has a large balcony that is mostly enclosed, the only open area is waist high wall to ceiling. Cleaning this thing is a nightmare. It’s a catch-all for dust and debris coming from the street, the partial wall is solid glass and the back wall is glass sliding doors.

I have not figured out how to clear the dust. Any sort of manual action (broom, etc) creates a dust bowl situation and makes things worse. I’d rather not buy a shop vac but is this my only option? The dust is so bad, cleaning the glass is a nightmare of grey sludge streaks, no matter how much I wipe before spraying. I leave my sheer curtains closed to avoid looking at the smears.

Anywho, any advice would be welcome. I keep a very clean home and at this point I’m ready to call the balcony a wash which sucks as it was a selling point.

Grabby hands, how to stop

Our pup is 3.5 months, Chinese crested and he came to us with what we’re calling “grabby hands.” He’s quite clever and trains well but we cannot seem to dissuade his need to grab our hands with his front paws. He does it during play, treats, training— all the time. Rarely is it to hold on for biting, which is expected for his age, it’s more to just hold us still or leverage maybe? I honestly don’t know. It’s adorable if I’m being honest but his claws are like daggers and ripping our hands apart.

We’re giving treats and praising for “all 4 on the floor” but it’s not sticking. He’s our first puppy in 15 years so we’re woefully inept but hand holding is something we’ve never dealt with.
