Not going to clarify what really happened in the plot as after watching a couple videos I've come to the understanding that director made a point through the ambiguity and was successful in inciting curiosity for the Great Hunger in us. I've been thinking, about the hobby Ben had in the movie — if taken literally (i..e. burning greenhouses and not murdering), some people in the modern world are tending towards these niche Psychological & philosophical practices of their own. But are they just transgressive leisure or maladaptive ritualization? I'll explain both.

For context, when I was surfing around these topics, I found something called transgressive leisure which I sort of already had a subtle idea about. Transgressive leisure is the act of crossing boundaries simply to prove existence to oneself or others or both. It's common in individuals who have "Great Hunger" (a spiritual void) but are stuck in a world of "Little Hunger" (materialistic satisfaction). I came across maladaptive ritualization through these idiosyncratic rituals which people with certain psychological fractures develop either on their own or by copying niche cult practices. To describe a few examples:-

  1. Eating stones/glass even if it can cause death.

  2. Playing with insects not with the intention of necessary torture but changing their life trajectories significantly by performing actions which are macro to their world such as separating families or introducing new species in their proximity etc.

  3. Planting indifferent flora into unsuitable environments. Dark version of guerrilla gardening

  4. Entering decaying or restricted spaces such as pyramids, Area 51, tunnels

  5. Destructive ASMR/testing. Buying expensive electronics only to drop them, crush them or demolish them with specific sharp objects.

What all of these have in common is a sense of agency through false sense of mastery of a niche exclusive activity. Nobody around you can truly judge your skill in the said activity as they haven't a clue about it. And another thing in common is egosyntotic behaviour that these activities are in sync with their ego. They don't have to struggle to accept or revolt with themselves to commit to these activities, they're are in natural harmony, often comparing themselves to the forces of nature itself. I washed to describe my understanding of these 2 categories- Transgressive leisure and maladaptive ritualization to share how I perceive their differences. For example people practicing the later require detachment from common empathy and are at more harmony (and are stable) with themselves and the world unless someone obstructs them. The former are egoistical and do usually have lingering empathy from their childhood, sometimes they can go back to being normal and it saddens them in various ways, they are unstable. But the latter, they rarely feel sad as they are in complete submission making them stable and a lost cause.

Despite the long 'analysis or rant', my question still stands whether which of the 2 is more dominant in our current modern world if one is really way more of a cause than the other, and if so, the big question- how to fix these people on a grander scale as one world and not individually.

I'm M28 looking for 1 more or max 2 (preferably male & brave) for an Airbnb trip near the Savanadurga fort. It was a high security prison and an ancient burial site and people who do night treks around it report horror incidents. Maybe rumours, but I'm thinking of trying Ouja board around that place. Trip would be last weekend of this month.

We were 4 guys but one of the flatmates left for a 10-day trip today so we are 3 now (males aged 28-30) and we usually play board/card games (physical) on the weekends at one of the friends flat (7th sector HSR layout) but this time since we are 3 (could increase if they invite their friends), I thought it would be good to invite 1 extra guy. I don't usually prefer inviting strangers directly to my or friends' home on 1st meet but ig maybe I'll try this time if it goes well. We are chill friendly people passed out from the same college & batch and speak Hindi. So if you care to join us tonight, then DM. Will have a quick call first, where you ask me and I ask you a couple questions to see if vibes match.

No females allowed please (no offence). This also conveniently gets rid of all those guys who explicitly show interest only when there are females so now we only get guys genuinely interested in playing and having fun.

EDIT: We got 1 for tonight. It is a late night hangout (goes around 11pm - 6am) which I should have mentioned as it was the deal breaker for many. The thing is we could play with more people and the games start to get really fun with 5 (max possible players in board Risk) people but as you can imagine inviting more than 1 stranger directly to home late night is quite odd. So for now, we are just sticking with 1 new guy. However if you are really interested for next weekend, HMU in DM, we could once casually meet in a cafe on a weekday evening and decide it. I think that would be more appropriate for both of us. So that you know me and are comfortable and I know you so I can intro you to my friends smoothly.
