Can any elective course count toward the Major Elective requirement?

Hi everyone! I have a question about Major Electives, specifically in the BS Computer Science degree.

From your experience, can any elective course count toward the Major Elective requirement, or do Major Electives specifically have to be related to your major?

I know the answer seems obvious but I had previously seen posts here on Reddit saying that any elective could count, and that while major-related courses were recommended, this was not actually enforced.

However, I recently received different information from both my PA and the Live Chat. I was told that Major Electives must be related to the student's degree program. Since I'm in Computer Science, this would mean that the courses need to be CS-related or equivalent to a CS major elective.

What's your experience? Has anyone successfully used a non-CS elective to fulfill the Major Elective requirement, or does it definitely have to be a CS-related course?

Thanks!

I'm taking CS 1103 this term and I just realized I'm probably screwed for next term. Final grades are released after the late registration deadline (June 17 vs June 14), so CS 1103 won't be counted as completed during the registration window.

I've already completed or transferred all Gen. Eds. and all CS courses that don't depend on CS 1103. All the remaining courses are locked behind CS 1103 directly or indirectly.

The only courses I seem eligible for next term are three electives: MATH 1281 Statistical Inference, CS 3340 Systems and Application Security, CS 4404 Advanced Networking. Electives I'm not even interested in taking.

So it looks like my options are either to take a term of electives I don't need or want, or take a term off (LOA).

Any idea on what to do? Is there a workaround? Do they ever allow registration while CS 1103 is still in progress?

Yes I'm about to email my PA but I wanted to hear from other students as well. I don't want to lose a term over this BS...
