4 Courses, 4 A+'s. What a Term!

Just wanted to share my enthusiasm about this term's results. Lots of sleepless nights, especially in the beginning of the term, as I was adapting to the course load. Grateful to God, giving me the strength and willingness to keep going. Saying that I have learnt a lot this term is an understatement.

Operating systems and the ways engineers over the years have developed CPUs and OSes to maximize efficiency and throughput under limited hardware constraints have shown me that the lengths we can go to when solving problems are far beyond what I have previously imagined. I also learned about ingenious solutions for improving CPU processing speeds, solutions that could be adapted and applied to other fields and even to our everyday lives. I learned about security, and why defense-in-depth is important at every level of abstraction.

I had previous knowledge about Software Engineering, and this course has been an opportunity to deepen my knowledge about SWE concepts accross the Software Development Life Cycle. I have always appreciated and understood how important systems are to achieve goals.

Not a popular opinion I would say, but I usually appreciate and learn a lot from non-CS courses. Studying Introduction to Philosphy and Greek & Roman Civilization (HIST 1421) has been eye opening to me (especially HIST 1421 because I didn't expect to enjoy a history course). I have got to learn about different ideologies and the reasoning and roots behind their stances (even if I don't agree with those ideologies). It makes it easier to understand where the other person is coming from, and build tolerance (even subconsciously), which helps oneself engage better in constructive discourse and articulate more convincing arguments. I have learnt salient lessons from history and how the foundational ideas and culture of Western Civilization have originated from the Greeks and Romans, and how those ideas materialized into the modern world.

And lastly, I learned about managing time effectively, the importance of streamlining processes to increase productivity and save time. Learned lots of new vocabulary. I love self-directed and lifelong learning, and I am grateful to God, the university, its staff, and my peers for making this journey possible.

P.S. Didn't realize it would get this long when I started typing.

120/120 credits — I finally completed my Bachelor’s

Being hard of hearing and having to work for minimal pay, deciding to pursue a degree wasn’t an easy decision, and completing it was even harder.

Today, I can finally say it: I’ve completed my Bachelor’s in Computer Science!

I’m incredibly grateful to UoPeople for giving me this opportunity and, especially, for the tremendous scholarship support that made it possible.

There were plenty of difficult moments along the way, but I kept going.

120/120 credits. 3.80 GPA. Degree completed.

Thank you, UoPeople. This one means a lot to me.

Transferability of Approaches to Studying Religions on Sophia

Hey guys, I was wondering if Approaches to Studying Religions (SOPH 0008) would successfully transfer to UoPeople. It says Civilization Studies, Culture and Belief is the UoPeople equivalency on the website but I just want to make sure since I didn't find any previous transfers for this course on UoPeople transfer database

MAKE IT SENSE😭

I am officially exhausted with University of the People and its constant glitches. Being a student here for the past three years has brought me nothing but an intense amount of stress. I retook a course in which I originally received a C+, and I worked incredibly hard to earn an A this time. For some reason, my GPA from last term still hasn’t changed, even though my G-Points have changed. Like, what is going on with University of the People?

Proctored exam grade

Grades of non-proctored courses have been updated on the portal but the proctored ones are not updated yet. Is it just me or is everyone facing the issue?

I DID IT!!!

I went back to school after 25 years, and finally finished my BSHS! Sometimes I felt like this school wasn’t worth the headache, and yes the communication and the advisors really REALLY suck, but I’m so proud of myself. I’ll be starting my Masters at an American University soon! Anyone who is in the same boat, keep pushing through!

What do we do if they just stop responding to emails?

So recently I've had problems with my courses and I've been emailing a lot of people. I CC'd every UoPeople person in my Gmail, but still days and days with no response. At this point, I think I'm begging for even a rejection, basically any response. The serious part is that there isn't anything you can do about it; they will respond when they feel like it. Your program advisor doesn't respond, and neither does anyone like the credit transfer team or even student services. So what do you do in this situation? What do you threaten them with after enough time has passed like weeks or months? Reporting to WASC?

Concerning Major Health Science

Hey everyone, I’m honestly super concerned about everything going on at UoPeople. I logged in today just to make sure everything was on record and that I was still on track. Next term is supposed to be my last term in the capstone series before I finally graduate, but when I checked my degree progress today, I saw that I’m suddenly lacking credits for free electives.
Apparently, a major elective requirement has been added, which was not there before this term—at least not in my case. I already have 122 credits, and after completing my final 6 credits of the capstone, I’ll have 128 credits when I graduate. Now, adding another 15 credits means I would have to take five additional classes.
Even if I take four classes in a term, that would push my graduation back by at least two additional terms, and with graduation documents apparently coming a term after completion, this could delay my graduation by a significant amount.
Honestly, this is incredibly frustrating. I understand that universities can change degree requirements, but implementing new requirements on students who are already at the very end of their degree is extremely unfair. These changes should not suddenly be applied to students who have already completed almost all of their requirements under the previous curriculum.
And this isn’t even the first time this has happened. Last term, they added a new Health Science major course that replaced an older course. I had already completed the old course, yet I had to fight through multiple emails, WhatsApp chats, and conversations just to get them to count the class toward my degree progress. I shouldn’t have had to do that in the first place. It was not my mistake that the university changed the course requirement after I had already completed it.
At this point, I’m genuinely worried about where this leaves students who are close to graduation. If requirements can keep changing at the last minute, what guarantee do we have that another requirement won’t suddenly be added before we graduate?
Students who have already completed courses and are progressing under the requirements that existed when they enrolled should not be forced to keep chasing a moving target. There needs to be some form of protection or grandfathering for students who are already near graduation.
I really hope UoPeople addresses this because it is incredibly frustrating to be told, essentially, that after completing 122 credits and being one term away from graduating, I may suddenly need 15 more credits because of a requirement that wasn’t there before.

Is anyone else still seeing their payment as unpaid in the UoPeople portal?

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask if anyone else is experiencing this.

I paid my course fees through PayPal, since that’s the only payment option available to me. In previous semesters, I also paid through PayPal, and my portal would be updated/cleared within a few days, usually less than a week.

This time, however, my payment is still showing as unpaid/pending in my portal, even though the payment was already made.

I’ve already contacted my academic advisor about the issue, but I’m still waiting for the payment status to be updated.

Has anyone else paid through PayPal recently and is still waiting for their portal to be updated? If so, how long did it take for your payment to be reflected?

I’m mainly asking because this didn’t happen to me in previous semesters, so I’m wondering if there’s currently a delay with payment processing. Thanks!

Taking UNIV 1002 will look bad later?

UNIV 1002 "online education strategies for non-native English speakers" is the course assigned to, well, non-native English speakers, as well as those who didn't study at an English-speaking school.

Do you think it will look bad on a transcript? Whether when applying to internships, masters or jobs.

I appreciate the university's effort to provide non-natives with a dedicated pathway, but according to the syllabuses of UNIV 1001 and UNIV 1002, the difference seems small, only some vocabulary assignment.

Can any elective course count toward the Major Elective requirement?

Hi everyone! I have a question about Major Electives, specifically in the BS Computer Science degree.

From your experience, can any elective course count toward the Major Elective requirement, or do Major Electives specifically have to be related to your major?

I know the answer seems obvious but I had previously seen posts here on Reddit saying that any elective could count, and that while major-related courses were recommended, this was not actually enforced.

However, I recently received different information from both my PA and the Live Chat. I was told that Major Electives must be related to the student's degree program. Since I'm in Computer Science, this would mean that the courses need to be CS-related or equivalent to a CS major elective.

What's your experience? Has anyone successfully used a non-CS elective to fulfill the Major Elective requirement, or does it definitely have to be a CS-related course?

Thanks!

Major Quiz Errors

Is it me guys or does every quiz and final exam have several errors. There is not a single exam I've found that doesn't have at least one problem that is worded funny or ambiguous or even wrong!

I've sent several emails to instructors. Some said they'd take it up with their department chairs. Some say they cant do anything which bothers me because it makes the difference in GPA between entire letter grades.

You'd think the liberal arts were ambiguous, but I found math and science errors!!

I want to advocate for my grade. A whole 0.33 GPA point difference in my grade matters to me!

My Experience with Rosalyn AI

I got an exception and gave all 3 proctored exams without needing a proctor. The University enabled a special Exam option in BrightSpace for it.

I was thinking that maybe they would make us go through ProctorU, which was one of the options I requested in my email to the University, but even that wasn't needed.

Overall, great experience for my last term with the Uni. I was quite uncomfortable with having to use an AI-managed proctoring service, so I am happy they let me do it without it.

Seeing other people's experience from my region, I would have hated using it.

Best of luck to everyone who's going to suffer from Rosalyn in the following terms.

Help with Quiz Password!

Hello everyone. I need serious help. I do not know where to find my Quiz Password for my Rosalyn proctored exam. I have checked all emails. What am I missing?

EDIT: I found out that I was taking the exam from the wrong place and I also faced issues when trying to authorise to Rosalyn but everything worked out when I switched to Firefox.

Is it recognized in Australia?

Hello everyone!
I’m interested in enrolling at the University of the People and getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
May I ask you if you know if a degree in this university is recognized in Australia? I’d mainly need that for work (in the business world) so I could move there.

Instructor rushing to grade assignments at last minute

Hello everyone,

One of my instructors appears to have graded a large backlog of my work in the past few days, and the results concern me. He gave blanket 70s on 4 discussion forum assignments that had sat ungraded all term, and I received lower-than-expected grades on 2 assignment activities as well. I still have 2 ungraded assignment activities outstanding.

Collectively, these grades would drop me from an A to an A- or lower.

I'm concerned he isn't actually assessing the work due to the end-of-term rush. Today is the last day of the term. Should I contact my advisor, or is there another channel I should be going through?

Scholarship not applied

Hello, I still have an assessment that needs to be paid for, I paid for my share of the other three under the previous scholarship I had. However, the fourth assessment fee was supposed to be covered by the next scholarship that I applied for and got a while ago, but the scholarship is still on hold, and they're asking me to pay full price for the Assessment. I contacted my advisor multiple times, and they said they forwarded this to the "responsible team" but now as I only have a few hours left before the fee is considered overdue and my next semester is cancelled, I still haven't received any response from anyone regarding this problem. I know others are going through this too, did anyone get a solution, or are you too still stuck on the on hold status regarding the scholarship?
