Get Stuffed Tomato - Italian Sub Style

I grew the Get Stuffed tomato this year as a novelty tomato. It has thick walls and hollows out like a pepper. I filled it with a mixture of salami, capicola, mortadella, Gran Padano, provolone, pepperoncini, red onion, mayo, red wine vinegar, Dijon, oregano, black pepper, garlic powder and chili flakes. The walls held up fine after baking. It was delicious served with a side of some garden arugula.

Cherokee Tiger - It is a Keeper!

I am growing Cherokee Tiger for the first time and I plan to grow it again next year. There was no way to cut it without taking the bottom tomatoes. The rest of the tomatoes on the plant are being better behaved. She made the most delicious Sunday morning breakfast. It is dense, juicy and meaty. The taste is rich, sweet and balanced with a pleasant acidity. I am not sure if it will beat out Rosella Purple as my top tomatos yet (I need to have one ripen so I can do a side by side taste test) but it will be close.

Tomato Season is in High Gear!

First and second photos are Miss. Maizie, we enjoyed her on a toasted sandwich. Third, fourth and sixth are more Miss. Maizie. Fifth is Dark Vintage Wine. The next three are Cherokee Tiger and the last one is my first Hundreds and Thousances starting to ripen.

Italian Sweet Pepper and Maizie's Mystery

What a great surprise to finally seeing my first pepper and beefsteak tomato ripening. Hoping all the others follow suit soon. I love this time of year, it is like Christmas in July.

Granny's Throwing Tomato

Granny's Throwing tomato (also known as Periforme Abruzzo) is supposed to taste old-timey, sweet, and slightly tangy with a touch of smokiness and low acidity. My Granny's are finally starting to come in! This is a new variety for me this year. The last photo is not from me, it is what the tomato is supposed to look like when ripe.

Today's Harvest

Sakura and Tumbling Tom. The green ones were a bad snip on my part, hoping they will still ripen indoors.

First Tomato Tasting of the Summer

My first Sakura ripened! This is my first time growing them and they are a keeper. The taste is very tomato forward and balanced. The skin was tender and the inside juicy. It starts with a bit sweetness then rounds out with a touch of acidity. Can't wait for the other two to ripen. I am averaging 18 tomatoes on a truss and my plants have 10 - 12 trusses each so far. I am growing them over an arch so I can't wait to see trusses of red tomatoes hanging down.

Hail Hits the Lakeland

We were hit with a wicked storm tonight. The hail was not big but it was coming down hard for more than a few minutes. Thankfully I hauled all 60 containers inside and covered my arch with a tarp. Everything is back outside now and I am beat. On the brightside, I will get to eat my first garden tomato of the summer tomorrow.

Pepperoncini From the Garden

I picked my first harvest of pepperoncini today and they went straight into a jar to ferment.

EDIT: (After a great discussion below, these are not pepperoncini. They are also not cayenne). These are Lombardo Italian Sweet Peppers.

Pepperoncini starting to ripen!!!

I can't believe I have a pepper starting to ripen already. I started them from seed on March 14. I am near Bonnyville. The purple streak is from the erratic weather. A week of high 20's then overnights of 7-9 this week. I can't wait to pickle them, I have quite a few.
