Moped riding to school (Dorchester Road, SC Mainly)

Hello everyone,
First time posting but have known reddit for years.

I am looking at getting a moped to drive to school because of the amazing fuel efficiency that it has.

I wanted to buy a 125cc/150cc but I cant get a Class M license for 6 months and that is not really feasible for me as I would like to start driving a moped in August when school starts.

I have been looking since then for a 50cc because I can already drive that but regardless I am going to get my Class M permit either way which I should have done months ago but only recently did I spike a interest in mopeds.

I also dont really want to spend too much money on a 50cc moped as I know those are slow and would be looking into a bigger one 125cc or 150cc a few months after I get my Class M license but that is not up to me as my parents are paying for it.

MY CONCERN

Due to my location I have about 20 miles to go on Dorchester Road for my commute to my High School and that is really concerning for me due to the people driving and the speed limit of 50 mph. Has anybody ever rode a 50cc moped on Dorchester Road and if so is it bad enough that its too risky or should I wait to get my Class M and then buy a bigger cc moped. The only thing with that as stated previously is that then I could only ride it for the last half of my academic year which is okay with me.

For refernce I have a honda civic that gets 20-25 mpg so a moped that does at minimum 70mpg is wonderful.

Sorry if I did anything wrong with my post this is my first time posting ever.

Anything helps thank you so much!
