Repair Cafés, Linux Workshops, a local Time Bank, Meshtastic, farmland access: some updates from QCRS
Hey folks I figured I'd put the actual details here rather than make everyone click through an Eventbrite link to figure out what this is. 😄
The Queen City Resiliency Salon has had a bunch of small community projects moving forward lately, and we're getting together Wednesday, August 26 at 6 PM at the Staunton Public Library to share where things stand and figure out what's next.
5:45–6:00 PM: Room Setup & Arrival
Come early, say hello, and help us get settled.
6:00–6:30 PM: Why This Matters: A Quick Economic & Resilience Update
A short look at the bigger picture: what's happening economically, why building local resilience matters, and how the work we're doing together fits into it.
6:30–7:00 PM: QCRS Project Team Updates
Updates from our four project teams, including what we've accomplished, what's currently underway, and what's coming next.
- Food & Land: reoccurring table at the Staunton Farmer's Market, outreach for partnership around a potluck event, introducing a new project group around helping young people afford farm land.
- Goods & Services: We've now had two successful Repair Cafes, and we have our first Linux Community Tech Workshop coming up!
- Tech & Comms: our first community Meshtastic node was installed on the roof of the Staunton Innovation Hub, hopefully first of many!, our What-the-Node Wednesdays are popular, and coming up we're organizing a Mesh-enabled ATAK Airsoft event.
- Money & Exchange: We've revived the Staunton hOUR Economy Time Bank, complete with adorable Staunton hOURs wooden tokens. I'd also like to introduce Opossum Wire. This will be a platform where we could coordinate service hours, barter market exchanges, even zap each other from within the platform.
7:00–7:15 PM: Where We Need You
Specific requests for help, opportunities to volunteer, and leadership roles for people who would like to take greater ownership of QCRS projects and activities.
7:15–7:30 PM: Questions & Break
Ask questions, grab a drink, stretch your legs, and catch up with neighbors.
7:00–8:30 PM: Salon & Idea Boards: Mix, Mingle, and Dream Up What's Next!
We're bringing the Idea Boards back!
We'll revisit earlier ideas, see how far we've come, identify what's still worth pursuing, and brainstorm our next steps together.
No special expertise is required. Bring your ideas, questions, skills, curiosity, and willingness to help.
You can register for this free gathering here.
