Does anyone else remember this detail about Ayanokōji?
The lines where Ayanokouji says that he can’t sleep well and feels uncomfortable when sharing a room with others.
The moment where Kiyotaka Ayanokōji most clearly expresses his discomfort with sharing a room and sleeping near others is in Year 2, Volume 8. During the school trip to Hokkaido, while sharing a room with Ryūen and Kitō, he explains that this stems from his past:
Context: After the tension regarding sleeping arrangements with Ryūen, Kitō, and Watanabe, Ayanokōji reflects internally.
Quote: “...sharing a room with other people still wasn’t something I was at all used to. It had happened a few times by now... but I wondered if, one day, I’d be able to handle sleeping next to anyone easily. Since sleeping by myself had been the norm for me ever since I was a young child, my bewilderment over this change in my environment still hadn’t dissipated.”
Additionally, in Year 1, Volume 4, he felt similarly with Yukimura: 'I couldn't fully relax with someone else in the room, but it wasn't too bothersome.'
In short, Ayanokōji explicitly states that sharing a room with other people 'still wasn’t something I was at all used to'. This situation persisted during both last year’s mixed training camp and this year's events. It also applies to his daily life with Kei, as he noted that his bewilderment over this change in environment has not yet dissipated since sleeping alone had been his norm since early childhood.
Ayanokōji :... but I wondered if, one day, I’d be able to handle sleeping next to anyone easily...
As a fan of both Horikita and Ayanokōji, I’m also curious to see if he will ever truly overcome this.
