I am so disappointed.
I’ve been a fan of Jack for over 20 years; the White Stripes were my favorite band when I was in high school, but I’ve never managed to catch him live.
The last few years I’ve had very bad issues with my back and sciatica and I haven’t been able to stand or walk for any amount of time without radiating nerve pain or numbness, though the severity varies.
In April my friend who lives in the Chicagoland said I should come out for the show at Salt Shed. I was very nervous about a standing concert because I felt it would be very hard for me physically, but this is the only artist I really want to see that I haven’t seen and I thought this would be such a fun experience in Chicago.
I bought tix on StubHub that were reasonable and then I buckled down and really focused on going to the gym 3 times a week and working on my strength to stabilize my spine and in the last few weeks I got the point where I can walk 2 miles straight, which again is something I haven’t been able to do for a long time due to these issues. I was so excited that I worked so hard and actually was able to get my body to a point where I felt I would be able to actually enjoy the show and not be in pain the whole time….
Cut to the last few days, I still don’t have the tickets in StubHub. I’m anxious but think maybe they don’t release them til closer to the show. I requested a re-transfer yesterday, nothing. Today the tix are listed as “on time” and say they’ll be released by 3:30. They aren’t. I chat with customer support who say they’ll contact the seller again but continually tell me not to worry because they will provide comparable tix or a refund. I ask repeatedly will there definitely be tickets because I have traveled from out of state and a refund is not acceptable. They advise they cannot get ahold of the seller and that I must wait until an hour before the show for them to contact me and provide the replacement tickets. They call me at 5:30, advise me to check my email and hit a button for the available options and….no tickets are available. They say I can get a refund. I say I don’t want a refund, I’ve traveled from out of state. They advise I should request the refund and then buy new tickets on StubHub that would be $200 more than I paid, which I wasn’t going to do. Oh and I had parking reserved that I could have canceled until 5p, and I was trying to resolve this with StubHub before this, but since they couldn’t officially fuck me on these tickets til 5:30, I ate $40 on a parking spot I never used.
Luckily my travel expenses aren’t crazy as I drove out and am staying with a friend, but god, I worked so so hard for this show and I am just so sad. I never thought StubHub was good, but I haven’t paid a lot of attention to them and I didn’t realize they were this bad.
ETA: Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I secured some legit tickets for September in Newport (Cincinnati) so I’m looking forward to that!
How long before the show do Jack White tickets become live?
Purchased tix for Jack White for Friday 7/24 on StubHub. Made the purchase during the presale window several months ago. I got an email that tickets had been transferred and to look for another email with the link to transfer, but never received such an email. Spoke to customer service at the time and they said they understood my concern about the email but tickets may not be released until as late as the day of. I don’t go to a ton of shows but I think they became live about 24 hours ahead for the last concert I went to, although that wasn’t a stubhub purchase so I didn’t have the same concerns. I think things are probably ok but hoping someone can confirm that it’s not odd that I don’t have the tickets yet.
Wondering if I should get another epidural steroid injection (ESI)
I’ve been dealing with sciatica on and off for a little over 3 years now, due to a bulge at L4/L5. I am trying to avoid surgery at all costs.
Currently, my pain is not usually bad, although I had a pretty bad flare of pain about 3 months ago. I’ve lost 80lbs (with more to go) since I’ve had sciatica and have been working to strengthen my glutes and core. I started (slowly, carefully) strength training regularly about 2 months ago which has helped minimize pain. However, I tend to get numbness in my foot if I stand or walk continuously for around 10m or more.
I had an ESI early on in this situation and found it very helpful, though it did wear off. I think I probably did not keep up with my therapy the way I should have once I felt better. I had another ESI about 6 months after that, and I felt that made things a little worse and caused me to have more numbness. After that I was sent for EMG to see if there was permanent nerve damage, and luckily the nerve was only affected by the impingement and not permanently damaged.
I have a concert at the end of July that’s general admission. I’ve been trying to take very good care of myself so I can enjoy the show, but I’m very worried about having to stand for an extended period of time. I think the venue does have ADA seating, so I could possibly request accommodations where I can sit. On my last visit with pain management, I told the dr I have this event and asked if another ESI might be helpful. She said it was worth a try and it’s been over 2 years since my last one. She told me to wait and see how I feel around now and let her know if I want to get the ESI. She said otherwise she can prescribe me a steroid pack to have on hand just in case.
I’m really torn on what to do, since I’ve had one positive and one negative experience with the ESI. I think one I had the one that failed, the dr said they could potentially do another one at some point with a slightly different placement to maybe avoid the issue I had, but that discussion was a long time ago so I’m a little foggy. Any advice?
