Can I Get These Lilly Pilly's Back Into A Hedge?
Our new house has a very tall Lilly Pilly hedge. The previous owner occupier would have planted them as a screening hedge, but the property has been a rental the past 7 years. And the hedge has not had the required maintenance. To give scale the trees are against a standard 1.8m fence.
Along with the height they've also been planted I think to close together. The photo angle doesn't quite show it, but they're at 70cm spacing.
I'm contemplating getting a tree lopper in to remove every second tree. And cut the remaining trees to about 20cm below the top of the fence, in the hope that they will re-shoot from the trunks. So that the trunks will eventually have enough growth to fill out back into a screening hedge.
Is the hedge recoverable? Or should I cut my losses and remove all trees and start again?
Cheers
