Trying to wrap my head around Distill

According to my research, it means to extract the most important parts of something, so I’m guessing it means to summarize something? Would streamline or boil down to be synonyms of distill? I don’t know, I’d like if someone could explain it to me

What is the difference between skirt, shirk, and shrink from?

For me, while these trio of words hold the same general meaning, there are differences in how I would use them.

Skirt-to avoid out of fear or responsibility, like refusing to answer a question.

Shirk-to avoid an obligation or duty, like turning down a challenge to a fight

Shrink from-this kinda goes hand in hand with shirk to me, although I would use this when talking about responsibility, like someone shrinking from accountability.

Idk, I’d like to hear your guys’ thoughts

What does Throughline mean?

In a story, does it refer to an overarching narrative? In music, does it refer to an instrument or melody that’s present throughout the entire song? In television, does it refer to a serialized storyline?

What does Effervescent mean?

It means like bubbly/lively, so if I had a girlfriend that was effervescent, would that mean she is excited and full of energy?

Say something good about this game

For me, I like the gunplay. It provides a way for the player to fluidly dispatch enemies without affecting their flow, unlike the homing attack which just halts you in mid-air whenever you home in on an enemy.

I like the mission-based structure. To me, it feels like a more refined version of Team Chaotix from Heroes, providing objectives that are placed along branching paths which lead into whole new parts of the level design, unlike the Team Chaotix campaign which slightly modifies the level design to accommodate the various objectives you’ll take on in this mode. It is technically new, but it’s not enough of a shake up to really feel like something new, personally.

Time attacking this game is really fun, due to its unique characteristics. Shadow features more lateral pathing, for the purposes of servicing its mission-based design, as opposed to the traditional longitudinal based design most Sonic games have, with the faster paths being located at the top parts of the stages, while the slower routes occupy the bottom rungs.

Say Something good about this game

I like the return to the speedy-based platforming of the Genesis games, but Heroes isn’t content with copying what its forebears did; it evolves the formula. The Team mechanic feels like a logical progression of what the 2D games were doing with the multiple playable characters. Now, you can switch between Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles at a moment’s notice while traversing stages that take advantage of each character’s skill set.

What does Lateral mean?

I know that lateral means like from side to side, but people start using the word in the context of video games, and that’s where I start to get confused. Can anyone help me out?

Say something good about this game

In view of a certain incident on Sonic Twitter, I want you all to tell me what you love about this game.

For me, I love the music, the Cyberspace levels, and the Homing Dash.

Hot Take: Sonic X does NOT characterize the cast well

Sonic characterization tends to be a subject of debate nowadays, particularly on Twitter, but I’ve noticed that people on the bird app who like to rip apart the more recent depictions of the cast tend to use the Sonic X anime as their frame of reference for “biblically accurate” characterization. And I think that the people who adduce this show as quintessential Sonic characterization were probably not even conceived yet when the show was originally being broadcast.

Sonic X was THE primary source people were using to base their parodies around. Amy being a hothead whose sole character trait was chasing Sonic around? That all started with Sonic X. Knuckles being an absolute moron who gets constantly fooled by Eggman? Sonic X was the Genesis of that, although thankfully Frontiers seems to have fixed that. The Chaotix being incompetent at their job despite them knowing that Eggman was their client in Heroes? You can thank Sonic X for that. Non-official content like Sonic Shorts straight up uses these readings of the characters as the basis for their jokes. For the record, if you see this show as the perfect distillation of the cast, that’s perfectly fine, but it’s interesting how fans viewed the show and the characterization of the case back then and how fans view it now. I should mention that I have watched the Japanese version and my sentiments are still somewhat similar. The 4Kids version does change quite a bit from the Japanese version, but I do think tend to overstate how big the chasm is between Japanese and English, personally.

What does Modular mean?

I was watching the “Stagnation of 3D Sonic” video by TelekinesticMan(great video btw) and he mentioned during a certain stretch of the video how springs in the Mega Drive games were additive and Modular, and I was just wondering what that word meant?

What are your genuine thoughts on the Monokubs?

I always see a ton of hate towards these guys, and personally, I think they should get more hate. I don’t think I’ve sat through a single one of their conversations without wanting to fast forward them. They don’t serve any purpose other than to get on my nerves. And what was the incest plot line with Monotaro and Monophanie? I know Kodaka loves his incest jokes, but I think I should’ve gotten Monophanie pregnant. I don’t know considering she’s a robot, but it’s possible she was furnished with the necessary parts to facilitate the act of getting pregnant. Monodam is my favorite one since he tried to kill each one of the brothers and sister and then killed himself when he realized he’s not built to be a leader. Monokid and Monosuke, I feel, were killed off too early for me to have a good opinion on them.

In conclusion, I hate the Monokubs, and I think the only reason Kodaka even included in this game is because he needed his magnum opus to have flaws because all art has flaws and the Monokubs are a big big flaw. Bigger than Kaede’s mammaries.

I think Sonic fans should try adopting this term more often

In short, it refers to someone who pays close attention to details, even the most minute ones. They tend to be exact and careful about getting every little thing right. For instance, someone who cares about arriving on school on time, or making sure the cutlery is properly placed in the right kitchen cabinets after dinner is over. Sounds familiar, right? It’s no shock that Sonic fans are often derided for excessive attention to the most minor of details, often using autism as a pejorative. And while a not significant amount of the fan base are neurodivergent, I feel using derogatory language such as the aforementioned is completely unnecessary and, frankly, ableist when it’s much easier to employ more academic wording such as punctilious.

Why did Kristoph poison the Mishams?

I know that Kristoph poisoned the Mishams from keeping them from talking about that forgery, but I find that to be a bit weird. Drew Misham lived a reclusive lifestyle due to his less than savory occupation. He rarely met with anyone and his only form of contact with the outside world was via his correspondence. Why, then, would Kristoph risk killing someone like that? It’s not like Drew would have told anyone about his illicit dealings with Kristoph. After all, he would have also been hung out to dry. I doubt he would have done anything that would put his daughter in a precarious position.
