Plex merged Runner (2026) and The Runner (2026) — here’s how I fixed it
Sharing this in case anyone else thinks one of these films is missing from their library!
I have Runner (2026) and The Runner (2026) in separate folders, with the titles and years in their filenames. However, Plex grouped both films under The Runner, treating them as different versions of the same movie.
Screenshot 1: Opening ⋮ → Get Info revealed both MKV files under the same entry. There was also an old Runner.mp4 marked Unavailable.
Here’s what worked for me in Plex Web:
- Open the merged movie and select ⋮ → Split Apart.
- Check Get Info on each separated entry to identify its actual file.
- Use ⋮ → Fix Match on any incorrectly identified entry and select the correct movie:
- Runner (2026): Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson.
- The Runner (2026): Gal Gadot.
Screenshot 2: Both films now appear separately with their correct posters. The blank Runner tile with the red bin symbol was the old, unavailable MP4 entry.
To clear that leftover entry, I used the Movies library’s ⋮ menu → Manage Library → Empty Trash.
Before emptying trash, make sure all your movie drives are connected. It removes ALL missing-file entries from that library, not just this one.
That fixed it for me. If either film seems missing, check whether Plex has tucked it inside the other film’s entry!
