Any recent DVR changes?

I looked at Plex DVR a few months ago and wasn't too impressed. I looked again and it seems to have some more features, so either my memory is wrong or they added some? I don't recall the ability to have it automatically keep/delete episodes after watching. I think the ability to only record new episodes there last time, but don't remember. I still use SageTV for my HDHomeRun and TV recording.

Anyway, has Plex updated their DVR offering in the last 6 months? Or was this status quo?

Need help repairing corrupted database on Unraid with DBRepair.sh

I use the binhex-plex docker in Unraid

I placed the dbrepair.sh file in /appdata/binhex-plex/Plex Media server

When I open up Command prompt to run the script, I get stuck at "ssh root@(my server IP xx.x.x.xxx)" and get "ssh: connect to host xx.x.x.xxx port 22: Connection refused".

Anybody know how to get around this?

Is there any way to remove new full-page sponsored ads?

Noticed these new full page ads on my home screen, but there is no way to delete them. Has anyone found a setting for this?

Remote watch/ Double NAT issue

My Plex laptop is connected to a router that is connected by a cat6 to my main router(I own both). Sometimes remote play works, sometimes it doesn't. If I bought a dedicated access point would I get a better remote connection? Should I just buy a switch and hardwire my laptop to the main router? What is the best option to not have to fumble with port forwarding and get better than occasional connection?

Jellyfin or Plex for Music

been running plex on truenas in docker for a few years, mostly for movies but i've been leaning on it for music way more lately and starting to wonder if jellyfin's actually better for that. plex is fine but everyone keeps hyping jellyfin so figured i'd ask people who've used both. which handles music better? metadata, tagging, multi-disc albums, all that. and honestly the bigger thing for me is the phone side... what are you all actually using for offline listening?

not trying to start the usual plex vs jellyfin slugfest lol, just figuring out where to put my effort

Plex not recognizing newly added movies

I’m an idiot, I had messed around with the share name for my movie folder and not updated it in the plex docker settings. Sorry for wasting everyone’s time.

Do people with thousands of movies and shows in their libraries even watch them, or are they just downloading for the sake of downloading?

If your AppleTV stopped working, you might need to do this…

So my AppleTV stopped working, I changed almost all the setting on my plex server and router, nothing worked. I found in the logs that my certificate expired. Then this topic to get it reset by plex, and now everything works again. Hope this helps someone out.

making big server, plex the right move?

Hello I am planning on expanding my current self hosted setup to have a NAS and a L3 Switch so I can host remote access from a website. Is plex lifetime pass better than the current jellyfin setup for users? I’ve played with plex a little. If I were to expand my server for ideally 20 people, would plex be more user friendly? While jellyfin works, it’s a bit messy UI wise, would buying the plex lifetime pass help achieving my goal here or is it not worth the money?

I have a feeling..

I have a feeling that this new price hike, along with the last one, and the fact that after like 15 years of being free you have to pay a subscription just to stream your own content (from your server, with your broadband) outside your house, that in the near future, the only ones using Plex and supporting them will be the users who already bought Plex Pass.

It is already looking that way if you look through all the posts in the last year, the only people defending these decisions are the ones who bought it at $75 or $150 and therefore are unaffected.

I really don’t know what Plex’s new business strategy is, but based on the direction they have taken their apps, the stuff they’re cramming down your throats on a homepage that was supposed to me personal media, to the prices hikes and everything, I don’t want to be a part of it anymore. In a world that has literally free alternatives, why would anyone?

When they did the last price hike, I kept Plex running on my server, but I also fired up JellyFin and have been running both so I can get used to it, and my users can as well. Aside from the apps being a bit ‘meh’, I don’t see much of a reason to stay with Plex. The streaming apps will only get better. Sooner rather than later too I suspect. I have a feeling that this latest “fuck you“ price of $750 is going to turn off a LOT of their users, and that just might drive some developer attention JellyFin’s way.

just my 2¢

Easy way to migrate my library to a new Plex account?

I'm running a server on a raspberry pi and would like to move to another plex account that will have a lifetime pass. I found some tutorials, but they are fairly dated.

How would you move your library (hopefully with metadata included) to a new plex account? Are there any specific actions needed if it's hosted on a raspberry pi plex server?

Thanks so much in advance! It's new territory for me and don't want to make things worse by monkeying around!

EDIT: This is one of the most helpful communities on reddit. The solutions provided made this very easy to accomplish. Thank you to all the commenters!

Should I get the lifetime if only feature I want is remote access?

Or maybe also hardware encoding.

I was testing jelly last Black Friday sales, way back in time I thought “ I can always test and wait for next sales” but looks like I missed the chance

Some videos freeze or stutter when I play them on my TV, and I can't figure out why

I use Plex on a computer running Windows 11 to stream over Wi-Fi to my Samsung TV; there aren't any significant distances or obstacles involved.

Most of the time, it works perfectly.

However, sometimes what I mentioned in the title happens, but I can’t figure out why.

I’ve already tried to find a connection between file size, video formats, codecs, and router issues, etc. And there's nothing in particular that stands out.

Any suggestions?

Plex not picking up one episode out of season

Plex is picking up every other episode in this folder except for this one. I have tried removing the entire season folder, rescanning, re-adding the folder, and rescanning.

Edit: I noticed the double .mkv after posting. Fixed it and rescanned, still not working.

Update: Found the issue, it was in fact permission related. All of these episodes are imported via Sonarr, so I'm not sure why this specific one had different permissions. Thanks all for the help!

Plex 1.43.2 broke third-party tools — API now returns full names instead of usernames

Heads up for anyone using tools like JellyPlex-Watched, or any other app that syncs or identifies Plex users via the API.

After updating to Plex Media Server 1.43.2.10687, it appears Plex changed how shared user identifiers are returned through the API. Previously, the API would return the username (e.g. cooluser99), but now it returns the user's display name / full name (e.g. John-Smith).

This silently breaks any tool that matches users by username across platforms. For example, if you're syncing watch history between Plex and Jellyfin, your users may no longer be matched correctly and syncing will just stop working without any obvious error.

Workaround: If your tool supports user mapping (like JellyPlex-Watched does via USER_MAPPING), you'll need to manually map each user's full name to their username on the other platform. Example:

USER_MAPPING={"John-Smith":"cooluser99","Jane-Doe":"moviefan42"}

Not ideal, but it works until Plex or the tool developers address the change.

Question for the community: Has anyone noticed this also affecting Tautulli or Overseerr? Since those tools also rely on Plex user identification, I'm wondering if this API change could cause issues there down the road as well, like mismatched user stats in Tautulli or broken request tracking in Overseerr.

Anyone else hit this after 1.43.2?

Would you have paid and been happy?

For all the Plex pass holders, if it would have cost $750 when you had originally purchased it and you know that you would still be using it and everything you know now, would you have bought it and would you have been happy with your decision?
