How hard/feasible would it be to create a modern Daggerfall Unity Co-op mod?
These past few days, I have been thinking about what it would be like to have a multiplayer mod for DFU. Friends could be grouped in a "party". When the host/leader of the party accepts a quest, that quest is activated for everyone in the party at the same time. And when the host/leader receives an update or message about the quest, everyone else also receives the same message and progress.
For travelling, maybe the leader of the party could choose a location (if no enemies are nearby), and a message for the leader would say something like "Waiting for other players" Then, a message would pop up for the other players, asking them to accept or not. For resting, it could be similar, the leader choosing to rest and waiting for the other players to accept or to also choose "rest".
For dungeons, maybe the enemies could have different health/magic values, or the amount of enemies inside the dungeon could increase to account for the number of members in the party. Maybe most enemies could still be easy, but each dungeon would have one superpowered enemy that takes a lot of hits to kill.
For more fun, imagine the XP and level increase is slowed down, people would have a limited amount of points/growth for their stats, so the strategy for the party would be for everyone to "Specialize" in something, so there could be a specialized mage, a specialized fighter, a specialized assassin, an archer, etc. Obviously, this would be optional but highly incentivized since it would be hard to become a character that can do absolutely everything.
So, imagine you find a high-level locked door. Someone would call their mage, "Hey Alex, can you open this door?" Then, after not being able to, they would call their fighter with high strength to try to break the door down. Or imagine having that one friend who is well-spoken, and everyone is friendly towards them, so they can get you quests and other things.
If someone dies while fighting, they could be "downed" but not dead and would need someone else to try to "revive" them. The only way to trigger the game over would be if everyone in the party is downed, and only then would everyone truly die.
What/how long would it take to create a multiplayer mod like this? Is it impossible, or could a group of dedicated modders do it given enough time and working together?
I know nothing about modding/programming/coding, so I'm clueless about whether this is possible or not. Please, be nice in your replies. Thank you
