I can't afford google pixel phone to install grapheneos for privacy. so what are options for people like me?
i normally prefer laptop for maximum of daily things including social media and all. but you still need phone. social media including youtube recommends google pixel phone to install grapheneos. but for person like me who has less use of mobile, google pixel is not only expensive but a non useful investment.
even if i would use phone much, i couldn't afford it right now. and i am sure there are many people like me who can't afford it. so what are options for us? should we be convinced that privacy is expensive, hence forget it?
one thing i hate about android is, it asks login with google account even during first boot. why i can't install any app, even update preinstalled apps without telling you what is my google account. for example, if i need to use gmail i will login in that app only. or may be singin with one google account for once, so that i dont need to singin in every google app, but then it should not be running and collecting data 24*7 in the background.
i tried to use some tools, forgetting the name (probably "NetGuard"). my logic was simple. youtube app and my browser should have network access, nothing else as i don't need. but then i saw many other apps also stopped working properly, even if you allow those particular apps. then i had to allow some google related apps and services and then it worked properly. and what about millions of people who aren't aware of this?
Please don't reply without reading the whole problem
don't think i didn't try creating those folders (second image), i did everything i could. after creating those folders manually, new problems comes. i kept solving one by one but i couldn't do it even after hours of effort and 4 hours of sleep 😪🤣.
and this is not first time. i faced error everytime while building things in fedora. and mostly nvidia gpu related errors. and the reason most probably the nvidia driver we install from "software" app (i am using fedora with gnome), it doesn't include all components for example cuda. and if you are saying everybody does not need those components, please read these problems.
- davinci resolve shows nvidia gpu in settings, but shows gpu full error untill you right click on the icon of davinci and click on "Launch Using Discrete Graphics Card".
- try to install ollama. when you run the installation command, the last few lines says which gpu it detected and which components it installed to run ollama with that gpu. it detected my amd igpu. surprisingly, when ran a model, it was using nvidia gpu but not completely. i had free space in gpu but it is still using ram and cpu to run the model. then i uninstalled it. ran "nvidia-smi", got something like found no command with that name, but good thing is if a command not found, fedora automatically tells you which package you can install to solve it, after those package installation now i could run "nvidia-smi" and reinstalled ollama, this time last few lines showed nvidia gpu related components, that means ollama installer detected it but again that memory problem still remains.
- i tried to build a fork of llama.cpp but got cuda error, then i posted on reddit. someone suggested install cuda from nvidia website, he/she warned me this is not prefered way though. but i ended up breaking the system. after reinstalling fedora, tried again. posted on reddit and i was given wiki links, i couldn't follow may be. i may be new in fedora, but i am not that beginner that i cant install things just by copy pasting commands in the terminal.
- if electricity goes, i turn on battery saver mode, but everything looks faded after sometime. also battery saver discharges laptop more early then default (balanced) mode. i don't use hdr btw. and i didn't notice if it still exists or not in fedora 44 with gnome 50, as i had an exam, so i didnt notice these much, but i can confirm fedora 43 had these issues, at least i felt, maybe i am wrong.
i can keep going issues like this. and i am saying these are nvidia driver related problems because i never faced maximum of these problems, when i was using cachyos. that means it is not gnome's problem or nvidia driver problem. either they are using all important components, or we are doing something else wrong here in fedora.
first of all, if without a component nvidia driver is not working properly, then those components should not be considered as bloat, hence should be included. but if fedora authority still thinks it is bloat, then let this version in the "software" app but add another app with all components with the name "full version" and it should take care of everything exactly how current one takes care of things like signing for secure boot etc. also people should be uninstall the current one and install the full version without any error.
fedora should have a full version of every widely used important thing they removed, for example python in fedora doesn't have many built in packages. now installing every other buitin packages which should come by default, finding the pip command is irritating (as everytime it is not pip install package_name). i understand everybody doesn't need full python, but then allow us something like "sudo dnf install python-full". but start with nvidia driver as it breaks system often when you try to do it manually. python and other things are still managable.
Edit: also how to solve today's error, i came to ask for help for them but ended mixing other problems too.
